Looking for a laptop for the wife.
Debating get her an air but she is pretty familiar with Windows 7
Ultrabook reviews online are up and down depending on which company reviews them.

Probably the Samsung 9 series or the HP Folio would be my choice.
I had good luck with my Lenovo Thinkpad x120e…its not longer made but I have read some good things about the new Ideapads
I hate HP build quality personally, had several people with bad luck as well as personally. I prefer Asus or Toshiba myself. The Z835 is light as hell and mid grade, I dunno how pimp you’re looking to get.
She uses microsoft office and facebook
But she is currently in school which is why I wanted an ultrabook.
I have a Dell XPS one that school gave me (part of my EMBA program); and I like it. Works great for anything I’ve thrown at it.
I’ve bought 2 accessories… an external HD (Only has a 128G internal due to it being SSD), and a video cable from Monoprice (Only has a Micro Display-port for external monitor/projector).
So I started pricing all the laptops with SSD and decent battery life decided to just go the macbook air since it was similar in price
:mamoru:
I see you went with the macbook, but if anyone else is considering these ultrabooks, I bought 7 Samsung 9’s and the users have had many problems with the external connections (usb, micro hdmi). Samsung set these up with a flip-door to hide them away when not in use, but it seems to cause nothing but problems. The touch pads are (as expected) pretty much garbage. The black finish will never be clean after you touch it. The keys from the keyboard ever so slightly touch the display panel, transferring all of your oily finger residue on to the screen making it impossible to keep clean as well.
I’ve since bought 2 dell xps ultrabooks and have not seen any of the above problems, except the touch pad sucks. hah. A bluetooth mouse is cheap and a better option anyway.
Both perform as their specs indicate, but I would go with the dell for the better physical functionality.
My whole EMBA class was issued the XPS Ultrabook, with a rf mouse as part of the program. I haven’t heard of any issues so far, and we’ve had them going on a month. I know I love mine.
That is not in fact (X120e) a ultrabook, I know it may sound pedantic but I hate when people call them ultrabooks. Thinkpad X1 Carbon is Lenovo’s first thinkpad branded ultrabook.
If I was getting a windows PC one I’d consider the Lenovo or a Asus one myself, but the MBA really is still one of the best on the market.
