Civic check engine light help, Gas tank is in! Still has Codes

97 ex coupe

I pulled three codes:
-p0171 “system too lean”
-p1456 “Mon. Control Aux Emission controls”
-p0170 ‘fuel trim malfunction’

Any ideas what it can be or where I should start? I cant afford to throw parts at this hoping it will solve the problem. I have ten days to get this fixed, lol.

210k miles, exhaust is broken right before the muffler and it leaks gas when filled up all the way.

Any input is greatly appreciated…

youre gonna need to put a gas tank in it, thats probably where the p1456 code is from, im not really sure what the p0170 code really is, and p0171 could be caused by a few things, i would check to make sure that the exhaust isnt leaking before the 02 sensor etc and that the sensor is good. Does it run good or does it stumble and run rough?

it runs great and still gets 26mpg I was told. I am going to fix the exhaust leak and look for a gas tank asap, but Im gonna check and make sure its not the fuel pump seal or anything like that. this car has NO rust on it so I highly doubt its the tank itself. ill find out this weekend.

P1456 for a 97 honda is evap leak(fuel tank system)
those codes could all be caused by a leaking tank

ok cool. Ill def check the tank out asap. and it does hesitate around 3k sometimes.

you can borrow my welder if you wanna use it to fix the hole in the tank.

And check for other exhaust leaks before the o2 sensor like already mentioned…

I have my own welder, good idea!

X2 weld the tank and you should be all good.

I had the same codes on my 96 civic and they were all caused by the gas tank.

im guessin the gas tank will be empty and on the ground, last time i saw a mechanic weld a gas tank with quarter of a tank in it a fire started

Back at Alfred State rumor has it that the old campus mechanic welded a tank more than half full on the car, he apparently ran the exhaust into the tank which displaced the oxygen and didnt allow a fire to start, I will never try it though lol.

Sounds smart but not really.:roflpicard:

Alright, I cleared the codes, drove it 200 miles, put a tank in it last night. drove it 30 miles and the check engine light came back on:

P0170 system too lean (bank 1)
P0171 Fuel trim Malfunction

The autozone computer thing said it might be a vacuum leak or dirty maf. Hopefully Ill have time to check tomorrow

U go to A state?

I did 04-06 for Autobody, thats why this stuff kinda gets me. I can change any part you want, but when it comes to diagnosis I kinda fail… lol

haha gotcha i graduate in May for auto tech

Alright. I cleared it once more. The autozone computer said it might have something to do with a vacuum leak for the cruise so I stopped using it. been 150 miles and no light.

There is still one readiness monitor still not ready, and it has pending code P0133 this website:http://www.bba-reman.com/content.aspx?content=NEXT_DTC_P0133_NEW_2 says that it is front HO2S no activity. so should I change the o2 sensor? I dont have access to a tech-2 anymore so that list of tests is basically impossible. It should pass on monday if the readiness monitor doesnt set over the weekend.

well with out a scanner u can hook a voltmeter up to the o2 signal voltage wire to actually see if there is a signal goin back to the ecu do it after closed loop, but chances are ur gonna just need to change the o2 sensor

Exhaust mani is cracked. Should I replace or weld?
