Classic 13-digit VIN "Carfax"

I’m just trying to find a source to verify this 1970 monte carlo my dad just picked up. I found a vin decoder, which told me the very basic information. however, the serial number, the last 6 digits, is what is going to tell me the secrets.

all the new style car report systems want a 17 digit id.

my question is, who knows how to find the info on this specific car?

thanks,
bill

No secrets with the Vin, tells year, build location, body style and production number.

The build tag on the firewall will give you more information as interior, paint codes, etc

And here’s a link to all the decoding info

ohhhhh i gotta see

that was my first car… a tore down to frame, rebuilt 70 monte… i miss that car

ya i got there already… thats the basic info. just want to make sure it’s a true 454ss car

thanks anyways though

Sort of helpful. Unless you have the original window sticker or build sheet, it will be a mystery.

carfax is only for 81+ I believe

I believe the last 6 digits is only the production #

You could take the codes off the body tag

Does it have a protecto-plate with it?

good stuff but not set in stone.

ill just have my dad call the guy and ask him if it says z20 on the tag… if he didn’t already

edit - i have the vin right here in front of me. hence doing this research. my dad just wants to make sure he’s not being jerked around. i mean, the car looks legit, but it sucks doing business with someone over pictures on a 17" screen

if you dont get it in a couple days… i may be able to get you a read out on it…

my friends dad had a 70 monte ss, which was exactly the same color and vinyl top… it looked lilke a complete twin to mine

they got rid of it, but im sure they could tell you if yours is true or not cause of how much work they put into theirs
