Cobb Access Port

Who knows about the Cobb Access Port?

I am interested in getting Stage 1 for now.

How does it affect reliability, mileage, etc?

Is there any down side to it?

If I were to have some kind of trouble with my car, is there any way to tell that its been used if I unmarry it prior to taking it to the dealer?

never heard of this before… details on what it is??

I have one, its a pretty neat mod. Back when i first got it you could only run the COBB maps, which im told a pretty pig rich but gives you and extra pound of boost and a little more giddy up. Now that the wrx is using the 2.5 i dont know if the results are any better. I did notice a bit more torque when driving with a full load of people, extra torque is AOK in my book. Another thing that is great about the access port is the feature to revert to stock which does just that. Supposedly the technician cant tell you were running an access port. Just a few months ago mike @ innovative bought the software needed to tune maps on it too, so you can compensate for the salt lake city tunes which obviously the air is much thinner out there.

With economy mode i never got into, its too much of a hassle to run the sti on the lower octane. Valet mode is freakin sweet, sorry to any valet guys on here but you arent going passed 3000 RPM on it, i let enough guys beat on my car with me around no need to do it behind my back.

Any questions let me know bro.

Basically plugs into the computer, changes some things around and makes the car faster.

I’ve heard that it makes the 06’s run smoother too. I didn’t notice how rough the car was until I went and drove my Focus after a month of driving the WRX.

I was just wonder if there was any detriment to reliability. The performance maps lean out the AF ratio because the car runs super rich from the factory.

Also I was wondering how this affects gas mileage. I would think that it would improve slightly but then again I am not sure. I’m new to this turbo world.

EDIT: I know the website says it doesn’t affect reliability. I do trust Cobb for modding, but I want to know what kind of real world reliability I can expect.

Well as long as you stay out of boost from what im told its a little better mileage according to the guys on their forum, but economy mode will definitely give you more the problem with that is you cant really drive quickly when you need to. As far as the AF, Mike would know for sure he has done tunes with these.

Staying out of Boost?? How do you do that?? :mamoru:

I finally found the effects of boost and I like it.

It sounds like you have a lot of questions. Just give me a call or stop by my shop and I’ll walk you through the whole thing. 674-2334

I really want to be sure that by adding an Access Port that I am not hurting the car. It is my daily driver so I want to keep it reliable, but at the same time a little more oomph is nice to have.

It won’t hurt anything unless you run the wrong map for your setup. For instance, putting a map on your car for a big turbo and injectors setup when your car is stock would be bad. Basically you’d have to try to hurt it.

If your setup isn’t just what they have designed a map for, you may need a custom tune for it to be safe. Regardless, if I custom tune it the car will be more efficient and make more power while still being totally reliable. There is still plenty of room to play with from their base maps.

It seems like there is more power to be had.
I was reading a post by someone at Cobb on NASIOC that they were able to flatten the TQ curve from about 2500 - 5500 rpm and HP came earlier in the RPM range. Not much of an increase in peak power, but who cares about peak? Usable power increased quite a bit.

Oh and as far as my Set up. I really don’t plan on doing anything other than the AP Stage 1. No short ram, no exhaust (that might change), stock turbo.

Uppipe, turboback and a re-tune is such a huge bang for the buck I’d say consider it for down the road. Cobb left power on the table on purpose for two reasons. They wanted their ProTUNER dealers like myself to be able to provide nice gains with custom tuning, and they wanted their maps to have a large margin of error for people loading the wrong map, having mechanical problems on their car, being in varying climates, etc.

So do you need an AccessPort to take advantage of the resource of a having a ProTUNER dealer so close?

+1 on the turboback, if you have looked around you most likely have seen how restrictive the stock downpipe is.

Yeah I thought about doing a TBE but again we get to the whole warranty issue. If something screws up with this car, I want to be able to take it to a dealer have them fix it for nuttin’. SoA I hear is a real bastard when it comes to warranty work.

I went in not too long ago and they told me that if i were to switch out the exhaust that is the only thing they wont cover. Im sort of in the same boat, I really want to get an exhaust but dont want to have to deal with any problems that might arise if i need any warrenty work done.

PS im telling my mom you are surfing at work

I’m telling her you are too. SHAME SHAME!!:mamoru:

Yes you do need to have an AccessPORT to get protuned.

hmm ok.

Well I hope I get a nice tax return this year.
