Compression vs boost tradeoff

Would you kindly elaborate?

i dont think he has a fucking clue what hes talking about :gotme:

what does a blown coupler have to do with an engine’s scr?

turbo, don’t be a pussy, step it up to like 9.5:1

fuck 8.xx, thats like rear-mount stylez right there, you’re better than that

lol. depends on the cubage i go with. 8.8 is a possibility for 4xxci. someone needs to buy my turbo setup though

This should have ended with Toda’s post.

Have you ever driven one of these “sluggish” high boost low CR cars? Mine is so sluggish that you need a spare pair of shorts. Maybe turbos are that way - I have less experience with them.

yeah i think they were talking about turbo cars, and 4 bangers specifically… I once drove a 7.8:1 DSM w/ a t3/t4 on it, waiting for that shit to spool…i could’ve gotten out and walked faster during the wait

Won’t a little nitrous wake a bish like that right up?

wasn’t my car, but yeah probably. i’d rather just make up for the “deadness” by bumping the compression.

on the civic its ok cuz i like not building part-throt boost (keep myself outta trouble) and if i do need to get going, i can just downshift to 2nd/3rd and rev it out to 9k, then shift back into 5th and continue cruising again…couldnt do that i nthe dsm cuz it revved out to 7k and full boost hit by like 5 lol

I know, I just wanted to give him a chance to defend himself…

yes.
for example these:

i’ve driven my own boosted setups: 8.7:1 vs 8.2:1, both turbo

i’ve driven chucks 9:1 D1SC vs 8.5:1 F1C.

id say thats a pretty nice spectrum. although there were other contributing factors, i would say approaching the 7s:1 SCR def makes the car a little more sluggish down low :gotme:

i’ve also driven stock engine procharged and turbo cars, and they are def more peppy with 10:1

My higher compression engine with the smaller blower was “more peppy” down low.

I still do not have dyno numbers to compare actual horsepower made for both setups.

Hopefully soon.

muscle50’s fox has a lot of low end grunt…esp for a small cube centrifical. dont know what his compression is though. Id guess 9-9.5:1

i dont see the point in going under 9:1 compression, at least for turbo 4 cyl

Well my motor is a 3.4 liter V6, not a 4 cyl, But I still think that 9.5 to 1 should be fine for street use. Thanks for all the input. I didn’t think that I made a bad choice but I was curious to the +'s and -'s to each situation. My next project will be a turbo V8 for sure and it will probably be a lsx engine. I got a spare z31 without an engine at the moment, could be a good winter project.
