CONVERTED my Focus SVT into an RS!

Not everything gets reported, at least it’s just a fender.

my guess is a spin-out…the driver rear quarter panel has a heavy amount of body filler on it, and it’s cracking… Judging by the combination of the fact the previous owner was a 35yr old female who obviously drive in stillettos and gouged up the shiftknob and steering wheel with rings, the car was equipped with snow tires when I bought it, and those two repaired areas, I’m assuming she spun out in winter and cought the pass front on a gaurdrail and then came around and whacked the driver rear as well. Probably paid out of pocket to have it repaired and got some snowtires, learning from the mistake lol.

I’m not really pissed about it. the apron shows no signs of replacement and neither did the area in the rear where the core support mounts…plus this stuff is all about to get replaced anyways haha.

less talk more cutting shit up  lol

you are probably one of two people I can think of that have close to the same number of active build threads going as me haha.

Progress on this is going to be slow over the next few weeks…

I have to finish the CB550 cafe refresh and ride that down to ohio in 33days. (need to fund some clearcoat, activator, reducer, and the mesh for the sidecovers yet)
My dad is up my ass about blocking down and satin-black’ing the replacement hood we got for the challenger. (he dropped it off and I guess I’m paying for all materials?? lol)
I have the XS650 half apart awaiting hard-tail and sportster tank
Have to fund a few gallons of polyester resin to start making the fenders for the RS front clip, and then fund more clearcoat, activator, reducer to paint them and the front bumper
All this plus I never started a thread for the Locost/Caterham replica I currently have a frame hanging from the rafters in my garage for lol. Plus my dirtbike shenanigans. F’in A Cotton. I have too many hobbies and projects. Sometimes I wish I could just turn off my interest in this shit but I have an addiction

^^Seriously where do you find the time to do all of this? lol

sleep is for the weak lol. I didn’t mention it, but I have an equal addiction to music equipment, and play in a cover band haha. Oh, and I’m totally a gym-rat and workout 4+ times a week.

I don’t have a girlfriend…WIERD, I know!

Very cool. Looking forward to progress

i believe i have enough clear and reducer and such for that tank if you want it (free). its all omni stuff. i’ll take a look tonight to see what exactly i have.

ive actually been trying to consolidate and i still have too many projects haha

dude, that would be INCREDIBLE haha. I have about half a pint of the custom orange I made the first time around, just no reducer for it nor clear/activator. If it was painted I could ride, sidecovers are optional lol.

not a huge update, but I ordered what I think is the last of the detail peices needed…

fender markers

bumper markers (I already have amber ones, and clear fender indicators…going to try both colors and see which I like more)

RS replica grill (I might be a dick and mold this too, HAHA)

“RS” grille emblem, this isn’t a true focus RS emblem, just generic…I’m thinking driverside centered at the edge of the grille to be different)

Then three of the red ones of these:

one on each glossy area of the door (pillar), and one on the tailgate

I’m planning to whip up the CF front splitter this weekend/week using a beat up used splitter I snagged as a template, then mold that for mass copies/profits too. After that I’ll make front fenders and paint the front bumper/fenders and get the front clip on.

Do you really want to have non-matching badges on the car?

not really, but I might just NOT use the rs badge in the front grill…the stock RS just had the ford emblem in the grill, and actually the “RS” logo’s I bought are for a Mk2 RS, the MK1 (my bodystyle) uses silver “RS” decals instead of emblems

Removed the rear bumper, crash foam, and SVT wing today

Going to start making the front lip mold tomorrow for a CF splitter. I’ll post progress on that as I go. Late next week I plan to set up the front fender molds and lay my fiberglass for those, so maybe in two weeks I’ll have the front clip finished.

Must finish faster…

I know lol. I almost shat my pants this week, I found a Jaguar Xtype locally for sale that was wrecked for $500…and it was the manual trans 2.5 (exactly what I need for the awd conversion)…but the motor and trans were already pulled :frowning:

it’s still listed…I might offer him $300 and see if I can get it for the rear end/brakes/hubs/driveshaft/axles/wiring/ecu though, and source the motor/trans on copart

this could end up pretty awesome.

Man, you’re going all out here…

yeah, I’m not fuckin’ around lol. I’ve had this dreamt up in my head for YEARS.

I did tons and tons of research and legwork about 4 yrs ago to determine how the focus could possibly be converted to AWD without literally swapping floorpans with a cosworth escort or saphire (both need to be sourced out of canada or UK).

my search led to the x-type…the focus engine bay is based on the engine bay of the contour/cougar, the contour/cougar were both available with the zetec 4cyl found in the focus as well as the 2.5 liter duratec V6…which later made it’s way into the taurus and the jaguar x-type.

the x-type is the only vehicle from that list that came with AWD and a 5spd MTX-75 transmission…

the differance between the v6 MTX-75 and the 4cyl MTX-75 is input shaft diameter(the v6 is larger dia)…

it’s possible to rip open the cases and swap over input shafts if I wanted to keep the stock 4cyl motor…

but the v6 swap has been done, so I figure a 3.0 taurus bottom end, with heads and intake from a Contour SVT…is proven to hit in the high 200’s HP n/a, and a company called Nautilus performance has a turbo kit available for the contour/cougar v6 that makes 350whp @ 8psi on a stock motor…

That package in an AWD car sub 3000lbs with the suspension package the focus has would be pretty damn stout on the street and on a roadcourse…Then add RS bodywork and 10" wide wheels with serious rubber…

…and you get a Ford Focus!

Lol, just being a dick, this is awesome.

that’s 85% the point haha. I know I probably get ragged on for my love of the car, but I seriously love the shit out of the focus. It’s a really well-rounded car for an econobox, and with them becoming so cheap now that they are a 10yr old car…some people are doing pretty cool shit with them. This thing wont be AWD anytime soon…but it IS the end goal of this car for me. I’d like to finish the exterior this year, enjoy it next year while maybe making a jig to design a bolt-in subframe with the jag rear diff/axles/hubs/brakes (hello 5lug swap)…then when the subframe is done I’ll be willing to tear the car down for the full swap…then a year at AWD v6 before boost.
