Couldnt the issues atleast wait til Spring when its warm??? lol

Got about 5 min from work (Voorheesville) and noticed that my battery light came on. Kept an eye on the odometer and clock and noticed they were a little dimmer than usual. So I immediately turned the radio and heater off, and put the ebrake on the first click to disengage the auto headlights. Got to about exit 2W and the odometer was barely visible. Then got to exit 4 and decided to get off the northway in case it did break down b/c I can get to a parking lot a little easier to go back and get it with my trailer. Used some downshifting and the ebrake to keep my foot off the brake pedal and hopefully keep the brake lights off. Got to the end of maxwell, turning onto fiddler lane in latham and everything electrically shut off (car still running but barely). Got to 155 and basically just blew the red light so I wouldnt have to stop on the hill… then got lucky with another light and just made it home. Quickly grabbed my DMM and had just enough time to test the battery and alternator outputs before it finally died. Both were around 6volts. I noticed that there is some decent corrosion on the terminals and the bolt for the alt. output is rusted so I’m gonna try to clean up the contacts and see if it works, but if not where has the best price on a reman/new alternator for these???
Thanks for reading.

What is ‘these’?

none of this is hard to search for you just seem lazy

Yea that would probably help… lol. 1998 Golf MKiii. I think I’ll just grab one from GAP. Advance has reman’s for $140 or I can get a brand new aftermarket from GAP for $180ish. I’ll hopefully check it out this weekend and go from there.

Ah. If GAP does not have one, go with NAPA. Electrical stuff from them is much better than Autozone, Advance, etc.

get it rebuilt here

Ive bought a few from X-Cel in Schenectady. The last one I bought was $60.

How did they work in the long run?

Fine, atleast the second one. They screwed up the first one but fixed it no problem at all.

Ive bought several starters and alternators from them and we used their shit all the time at the shop I used to work at.

Good to know, thanks man.

just go to napa and pick one up, done deal or make the troop to GAP and overpay which is what i do when it comes to VW.
