Well, this July, I’m hoping to buy my 240… and now I need suggestions. Which is better a coupe or a hatchback? What is cheaper for insurance? Which is lighter and a better daily driver? I personally like the looks of the coupe, but I need to know some more info first. Thanks guys.
I like the coupes way better apperance wise, but hatches can actually accomidate cargo.
we all know coupes are the sex
try using the search function this thread was already done like 2 months ago.
Sorry guys, and yeah i LOVE the look of the coupe, but i just want some general info on them, like insurance rates and what not.
Stiky, look for the old thread, coupevshatch has been discussed many times! And insurance for both is identical, hatch is i think 90 lbs heavier and flexes a bit more. Hatch also has greater chance to rust out the bottom of the trunk cause of water leaking in through the rear lights.
True thanks, yeah, im looking for a coupe probably but theyre harder to find, and im only looking to spend about $2000-2500 on it. Thanks cal.

If you’re only looking to spend that much, you’ll want to keep saving your cash.
lol i know, im not too too concerned about the engine, as i wont be driving it for like 5-6 months after i buy it and i will be working on it, so technically i only care about the shell
Working on a car requires parts. Even used parts or parts from junkyards cost money. trust me, i’ve been through it and i’ve made my mistakes.
yeah i realize that, I’d be willing to spend up to $3000, just takes a little bit longer to get there and I’ve been looking around already.
as much as i love my hatch, i have been liking the look of coupes more and more for some reason…lol
not this again…
can we sticky the coupe vs hatch thread , like hoyl chow
look man im gonna tell you everything I need to know in one Post
ive owned both so heres my PERSONAL opinion
#1 do youself a favor if u want a 240, 2500 is too small of a budget. Try 3500 at minimum… common problem is the FRAME if you want a DD with some guts a repaired frame($200-$400 a side! re weldied) is okay… a drift/hard beating car. you want a SOLID factory frame (check subframe and front section were the 45 goes upto the engine… dont be afraid to hit the frame with your hand, may hurt to hit it(if u dont got a hammer) but if it flexes or feels spongy WALK AWAY and holes are a obvious NO NO!!)
#2 hatchs are nice but since the open concept rear (the hatch) causes stability issues in the rear, they twist easier… $100 fix (rear stut bar) now hatches are my personal fav. they can look alot nicer then any coupe with the right bodykit. nice body lines. and yea they are heavier (glass weight is generally more then steel), alot of room in the trunk with the seats folded down… alot of these can be found either bone stock no power options so no electircal to fuck with if something goes wrong with windows or locks.
#3 coupes look sick, most are full option LE’s so power everything. they have an actual trunk so the steel connecting under the rear window make a good brace to prevent flex (so a rear strut bar is mainly just cosmetic unless your harcore drifting). they weight less. (90 IBS no big deal… its mostly lost in the rear where weight on that rear axel can make the diff between just burning out or getting solid traction on the pavment… i dunno 100IBS off a car save 1/100th of a second in your 1/4 mile time. your prefrence…
the hatch may be known for a leaky trunk but its a 15+ year old car so u can easily re silicon the lights…
the coupe is generally power everything so a minimal amount of extra weight in actuators and electircal faliures in motors is common. the HUD is cool on coupes(only) but they hardly ever work properly now adays…
in the end its all personal prefrence it like the KA-T VS SR20 fight. no one wins in the end.
one last note… i dont know why but i love hatches they look sick stock body and if you want slap some Aero skirts, lower bumers and she looks agressive(look for Junkyards drift car part out thread in the FS section dream body look :))
but coupe is nice but the rounded hood to the flat roof and trunk only looks sick with the Silvia convertion… kinda weird to have round flat flat… shoulda been flat all across… but hey just my opinion
PPS. dont think 240’s are fast… stock ka’s have tourqe and balls but there not fast, a SR or a KA-t on the other hand is quick with good power but this car is for tourqe mainly, drifting and going down windy roads without loosing power…either upgrade and your looking at $5grand in motor alone if u want a fast in a straight line get a honda… like a 240 is quick but a honda with an h22a is alot fucking faster… its a fun car to drive for sure…
now if you know how to drive Stick look for a 5spd. if you see a auto for 3000 and a stick for 3500 go for the stick, its cheaper in the long run, 5 spd swap at cheapest after install can be 600-1000 depending on where u get the swap.
We Are ALL In Love With Our 240’s Here So Be Respectful To Your Choice And We Will Respect You
I bought my coupe auto got all the parts i needed(some brand new for 200$) and if you can chance your waterpump u can do a 5 speed swap.
lol honda with a h22… woooood
