GM’s actions have been pretty public. Feels extremely fair.
Well this is interesting. Dude in China was researching bat viruses and was published. Now he’s been disappeared. This whole thing might have been a lab accident.
I keep forgetting that I can come on here to get my fill of memes and political talk in between xwalkers IG stories.
I watched the movie Contagion and this whole outbreak seems like a reboot of that movie. This is our trial run for a proper movie style viral outbreak and the steps takes seem very similar to the movie.
I presume, the movie just follows some government playbook.
On a side note, there are a ton of first time gun owners out there. The local gun stores have been extremely busy.
I also like the memes where they complain about how hard they are to buy now realizing that there are bad people in the world that want your hand sanitizer.
any of you guys have access to information or reporting on the dramatic up-tick in suicides during all of this?
based on what i am hearing COVID-hysteria suicides are outstripping deaths from the virus itself and are just beginning.
also, I am told there is another development trend of COVID-isolation deaths in elderly people who are forced to cancel their social lives and have to sit in front of the TV all day with no help.
3 months worth of the latter in a small Ontario community over 4 days last week.
I have seen zero reporting on any widespread uptick.
The US averages 123 suicides per day. COVID-19 has killed over 3400 and the first COVID-19 death was 2/29, only 31 days ago.
31 x 123 = 3813 suicide deaths on a typical year. So yes, since COVID-19 became big news it’s likely there have been more deaths by suicide, even if the virus chaos had zero effect. I would still expect if there was a massive uptick in suicides we’d be hearing more about it. I’m sure there’s some increase just because if you take someone that’s on the edge to begin with and then socially isolate them and pile on some non-stop doom and gloom on the 24/7 news rotation and sure some of them are going to crack.
But hey, at the rate COVID-19 is spreading and the half measures we’re taking with social distancing, you know like the fact that we’re still leaving it up to each each state to decided if/when they make people stay home, the virus deaths per day will likely overtake suicides soon enough.
It sounds like we’re not on the same page as far as the ‘cure’ being worse than the disease.
I’m not debating the seriousness of COVID but I do believe that the measures being taken are going to be worse.
Completely agree with this. I don’t see how this doesn’t turn into a full blown depression, and with oil so low how long does it take Russia to starve before we see them retake the eastern bloc? Or China annex Taiwan? We can’t keep the world shutdown for 6 months.
best case i am being told is June for a restart. April is a full write off and it will bleed into May…
and bear in mind, June is the best case scenario for starting to return to normal
I’ve been extended to end of April, took reduced pay instead of burning vacation.
I still have more work than I can possibly finish this year. Managing all these COVID related delays is only adding to it.
Thankfully, not a lot of my Vendors are pushing deliveries. I expect they are likely being overly optimistic, but I’m holding my construction dates until I hear otherwise.
I think suicide rates will only start making the news once we something in place to treat the extreme covid cases. I’ll say mid-summer. It will need to be tied to firearm sales somehow to get traction though.
Extended to May now. 75% pay to sit at home, not complaining.
Wife and I are both busier at work than ever She works in healthcare and me food equipment manufacturing. We need a vacation but cant go anywhere…
Thoughts?
Father-in-law passed this morning due to complications with COVID. He was 70 years old with ongoing health issues and was admitted to the hospital Wednesday afternoon with difficulty breathing and weakness. Diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia, test confirmed COVID Saturday morning and he passed after going into cardiac arrest early this morning.
very sorry to hear that man.
please dont take any skepticism here as disbelief that this is genuinely affecting people’s lives.
Sorry for your loss @OfficerK. Was he in NY state?
I don’t take anything on here personally
I actually feel like this whole thing is being blown out of proportion, with the media thriving on the death and misery. It is a nasty, easily spreadable flu with no real treatment. Common sense practices like distancing and practicing good hygiene would go a long way in keeping this thing under wraps, but some people can’t even seem to do that.
He lived in Dunkirk so Chautauqua Co.
Car insurance companies are starting to step up and give rate discounts automatically because clearly no one is driving right now.

Hopefully Progressive does too. Cars and boat policy is with them.
