cross country drive.

Ok i flew to Oregon on tuesday and driving back with my buddy back to pittsburgh. to all the people that has done this drive, i need some suggestions on where to stop for a little and visit? Right now I’m having trouble leaving portland oregon. Been going out and getting way to blitz or hungover to start driving. I think i’m going to drive down highway 101 along the pacific ocean then cutting east towards reno nevada to gamble in the desert. any suggestions on what to do would be greatly appreciated.

Vegas and the grand canyon. Walk out on that glass bridge thingy…

Cheeks just did this drive a month ago talk to him.

I’d love to do this drive. I need to fly out to Cali and buy a car to drive back haha.

how long do you have till you need to be back?

IMO grand canyon iswaste of money
drive through Utah think that is one of the most scenic states i have ever seen so far. go through utah side of the rockies. when you get to Moab there is a road that cuts across to I70 it is 50 miles of some of the best scenery you will ever see
the road follows along hte colorado river. it is like driving through the bottom of the grand canyon

You can probably pick one up at Borders. It’s has all weird sites, World’s largest ball of yarn, and restaurants, hotels, and stuff like that. If you are staying on 70, it looks like there is a bunch of sites off of 70 in Kansas.

If you go the southern route, there some neat sites near the Arizona / New Mexico border on 40. The painted desert, crater rock, and the land of Fire and Ice are all near there.

jeff told me about that before I left, it was a lot of help. Arizona/New Mexico are amazing, the horizons and landscapes you see are truly breath taking. Don’t speed in New Mexico though, they’ll get you for sure

Yeah. We found this because of the book.

This guy in Kansas builds windmills out of scrap iron as political commentaries. Funny as Hell. Take this road (rt 400) from Albuquerque, NM to Kansas City. It goes diagonally across the state and cuts off a bunch of distance, too.

If you end up near Bowling Green, Kentucky, there’s a few cool things there.

  1. The Corvette Museum
  2. Mammoth Cave. It’s the largest in the US. Carlsbad is the oldest.
  3. The Lost River Cave. Supposedly Billy the Kid hid out there while on the run. There used to be a night club there in the 30’s and you could drink the water that Billy the Kid drank for a nickel.

defintely have to make it the cadillac ranch in texas

If a more northern route would work for you there’s Salt Lake City, Jackson Hole Wyoming which is just down the road from the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone National Park, Custer Battlefield (where Custer made his last stand), Devil’s Tower (as seen in Close Encounters), Mt Rushmore, the Badlands of South Dakota, Wall Drug (interesting mammoth store complex in the middle of South Dakota), the Wisconsin Dells, and many oddball attractions in between.

need help… got a car problem on the road. so the we made it about 1500 miles into nebraska and the 240sx is starting to act funny. seems like an alternator going bad. power cuts starts to fade or cut out past 3500 rpm. the radio just starts to turn off, all lights dim out and car chokes when you press on the gas. but when you slow down and down shift power comes back on. i think it might be a bad voltage regulator or the whole alternator might be going. any tips or advice from the 240sx gurus. just to let you know the car is a 93 with a ka motor. I hope to make it to chicago by nightfall tomorow.
