On the way back from Carlisle, PA I didn’t want to take the highway. I was sick of highway driving so I decided to take a “scenic route”.
At first a bunch of people in our group seemed interested, but in the end, only myself and khoveraki (red FD) went.
It was probably for the best, because we ripped it HARD and fast. The terrain was UNBELIEVABLE. There were a few stretches where the road was a little bumpy, but still SO FUN. There was almost NO traffic, and most (85%) of the time the roads were in nearly perfect shape.
It’s the best drive I have ever had in my entire life. IDK if it was the weather, or the fact that I was cruising with my best friend who lives on the west coast, or just the sheer awesomeness of the drive, whatever it was, it fucking ruled.
So many curves. Insane banked curves and switchbacks, uphill and downhill. Beautiful scenery. Ugh. This one drive would have made the whole trip worth it. I’d think about doing it on a day trip, it’s not that far away.
The road is state route 44.
The entire pink line is awesome. The red portions are simply incredible. The northern on is uphill when traveling south, the southern one is downhill.
The blue dot is where the pictures of our cars were taken.
Hmmm…looks like I could squeeze that stretch in on my drive to Ocean City this summer. How bout you mount a camera for the next time to catch some video…
Thats the stuff motorist’s miss out on to save an hour or two.
I’ll bet there are routes like that nation wide.
When I went to oil city PA for my free bike, all the roads were decent.
Except the one the guy lived on. A dirt road with a 50’ drop and no shoulder or guardrail to my left, and a wall of mountain/hill to my right.
SICK. Im not sure if we took different route or the same, but it was fucking sick, either way we went up a mountain and came basically straight back down haha.
What you drove through is called the grand canyon of the east. A very good portion of this area is used for Rally America Susquehanna Trail Pro Rally. It’s a very beautiful drive.
If you are looking for another great drive. Look at Troy, NY and follow Route 2 east to Greenfield, MA. It’s 42 miles of blast.
Looks fun, last year on our way down to Carlisle about an hour away we stopped for gas. We decided to take another way other than the thruway and it look us to this mountain about 20 minutes outside Carlisle. It had a few tight 180 degree up hill turns, a lot of 90 degree turns, twists… etc.
Once we reached the peak the downside was all one lane twists and long easy turns. On the shoulder of this road at most times was no more than a guard rail followed by a steep drop. It was an awesome ride. I’d love to see more pictures if you have anymore.
Guy with FD is a really good guy. Helped me pop out a dent after knowing him for like 4 sec.
Back on topic, who’s driven Zoar Valley road? Been there twice and the road is insane!
A bit?! Holy hell they’re rough as fuck! But still fun to drive. I did it in the sol, part of the fun but yeah, they’re definitely rough to say the least.
