Crossing the canadian border with products purchased in canada

So. if i wanted to bring back to the US, lets say, 1000.00 worth of products purchased in Canada, how much will they charge me at the border?

please provide a reference if you can… Ive been searching with no luck.

thanks!

i believe you only have to declare items or money that exceed $10,000. I could be mistaken. Minglor and Walker will most definitely know the correct answer.

I bought my Skis and bindings over there. They were just over $400 iirc. I stopped at the place just before the border to get my GST tax back. When I finally got to the American side and showed them what I purchased with receipt, they didn’t even bat an eye, and let me right on through.

i just called… im buying furniture. as long as the furniture manufactured in the US/Canada you’re good. at MOST they will get you for 3%

minglor, can you confirm?

spanks for the quick replies.

.

I’ve purchased up to $1500 in canada at ikea.

I just don’t say anything at the boarder on the way back. I also don’t lie - I just answer with the minimum truth needed.

i.e.
where did you go?
a: ikea. (not = I spend 1500 at ikea).

I’ve never had to pay anything.

^ exactly. Just answer their questions and you should be fine. Lie and they will rape you.

I went to Toronto a few times last summer and came back with about $1,000-2,000 in stuff from various clothing stores and electronics.

I never did try to get my GST tax back but when I came through US customs, they asked me what I did in Canada and told them shopping in Toronto and they never said anything. A few times I was asked what I bought and told them a few shirts, camera, whatever it was and that was the end of it.

I did have bags from stores in the back seat that were visable too and at most they looked inside them but that was it.
