Selling something in canada

I Have to bring something across the border to sell tomorrow(motor)
how do i go about doing this?

What do i say when they ask me why am i going there?
What do i do when they check my car?
What do i do when i come back with oodles of money and no motor 25minutes later?

The canadian guy doesnt want to cross the border because he doesnt want to deal with customs or whatever. he’s giving me money, so i figure i could do him the favor of bringing it over

they (canada) will ask how much you sold it for.

you will have to pay duty. (but just charge the buyer what you paid[they will give you a reciept for your records])

upon re-entering the US declare all cash and explain why you went to canada for such a short period of time.

So i could get him to write me a receipt/i write i receipt, for lets say idk… 100bucks. Do they then tax me on that 100$ ?

He’s paying me in USD not canadian, so i dont have to exchange anything either

Sorry, ive never done this so its kind of confusing

Well from my experience I had a Canadian buyer come over to my house to buy a guitar amp. I sold it for $100 and wrote him up a receipt for $50. Customs didn’t even bother making him pay tax since it was so cheap. So that may be your best bet, write a receipt for very cheap and they may not bother you about it.

i actually thought about a real legit lie, but idk if it’s worth it. ill just say i sold the motor for 50bucks and write a receipt or something

so where do i pay the taxes then?

I would guess that you would have to stop at the duty free before crossing back into the US. I’ve had to do that before when buying some hockey equipment years ago, so I would assume the same thing applies if you’re selling.
