Crossover cable minimum length?

What is it, like 1 foot?

I forget.

I have used a 12" crossover without any problems

11.6219475" anything less will melt…

i don’t think their is a minimum. never heard it…

Regular Cat-5:

Gigabit Ethernet (over copper), 1000baseT
Speed: 1000 Mbps
Max Len: 100 Meters
Cable: UTP, RJ-45 connectors

Fast Ethernet, 100baseT
Speed: 100 Mbps
Max Len: 100 Meters
Cable: UTP, RJ-45 connectors

Twisted Pair Ethernet, 10baseT
Speed: 10 Mbps
Max Len: 100 Meters
Cable: UTP, RJ-45 connectors

Thin Ethernet , 10 base 2
Speed: 10 Mbps
Max Len: 185 Meters
Cable: RG-58 type coax, 50 ohm impedance

Thick Ethernet, 10 base 5
Speed: 10 Mbps
Max Len: 500 Meters
Cable: RG-58 type coax, 50 ohm impedance

There has to be some specifics on the box if you bought some. . . or if you made them on your own >.> dunno

At least this is some reference. . . and 100+m wow… 2 feet? heheh

:o Come on google > Howie

EDIT: OH Minimum T.T Tee hee hee

he wants minimum length… of which i dont’ think there is one.

i’ve done punchdowns with less than 6" of cable in a crossover setup…

It’s not the size that counts…but I’ve used 3" cables in racks before…

yea i didnt think there ever was a minimum… doesnt make much sense? the only thing that makes a crossover a crossover is the wiring so i assume u could have it as long at u had enough wire to cross it inside

minimum? don’t think there is one, can’t imagine why.
the one i keep around is about 2 feet, but i’ve used shorter.

I can find no minimum length in the chunk of the specifications I have for 100BASE-TX cable. I read one Internet source that said it was .5 meters (1.6 ft.). I have read others that said there was no limit. I have a 2-foot crossover cable that works fine. There are loopback plugs that have almost no length. I would tend to make such a cable at least two feet long to permit some noise attenuation by the twisted pairs. However, RJ-45 plugs are cheap and one could experiment for a modest cost.

In all the cisco classes I have taken there is no minimum lenght

3 feet is the minimum… anything less and the quality of signal is degraded.

Yup… I’ve never had problems with shorter, but technically 1m is the minimum recommended length.
