Custom IC Setup

Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone if running a Volvo front mount intercooler type setup. Or anything else custom like that? I am looking for something not too expensive and efficient. I’ve herd that the Volvo setup is nice, would like to see some pics if possible. Here is another setup I really like…

you’ve already seen mine, Volvo 740 turbo rad + FMIC, fits well, rad is SR friendly (ie: can use SR hoses easily).

Should be able to get both in Aberfoyle (old hwy 6 (gordon rd) south out of guelph) for about $300, but it requires the overflow can as the pressure lid is attached to it.

the junkyard is Volvo only, should be easy to find

is your side mount pooched? before you used it

Yeah I was just wondering if any other ppl had any similar setups. Well my side mount does have that hole in it, and some of the piping is missing so it’s pretty much useless. Still trying to get Marcus to resolve the issue with that and the ecu. Real pain in the ass. I just want to get my swap done this week because I need a car to get to work.

Do you have any pics you can send me, I forgot exactly how it looked. Can you run A/C with this setup, or will it not fit with the intercooler and rad in the way?

the FMIC and rad sit behind the rad saddle, (that piece of metal the hood latches to) so they shouldn’t interfere with AC, but the clutch fan on the motor will have to be replaced with electric fans.

as well the volvo unit is narrower, about the same height, and (rad) 2-3X as thick

you don’t get that fancy ‘bling bling’ FMIC look though, but personnally I can do without the added attention

Don’t let shops cut the hood latch bar thingy to fit your intercooler.

If you do your hood could start comming up at 240km/h…

i cant see it doing justice for a nice S14 SR

Well I wold love a front mount, its just that i’m flat broke now and the smic I have has a hole and missing cold pipe, so i’m limited to my options now. Still trying to get a straight answer from Marcus, like I got a ‘clip’ from him yet so much stuff is missing, If I woudl have know I would never have taken it.

I think Phil at jdmp has a used smaller front mount, I might have to grab that and maybe get someone to make me some pipes.

i got a IC from a super coupe i can sell u , its about 16x8x4 very effecient, good for about 450hp ish, PM me

Chris and I both run this set-up. Sure it ain’t bling-mania, but I’d rather have 22" of IC piping than lag and a fancy look.

whats the diff between S13 SR/KAT vs S14 SR ?

if I hadnt bought my fmic before meeting darian and seeing his setup I would so be sporting a volvo setup to save like oh… 4’ of IC piping

Haha yeah they are. Well i’m still debating what to do, I have enough other issues still so i’m putting things off. Gotta see how much fundage is available after all this mess. Thanks for the pics Jeff!

Would this ic/rad setup suffice for a ka-t setup running ~220-250whp?

uhm yes. that rad is a triple core (i Believe) and that FMIC is quite susbstantial in size

except that the rad hoses’ line up for a SR, not a KA, however Chris (canadiandrifter) runs this exact set-up on his KA-T
