Irvine, Calif. – 1/5/2006D1 Grand Prix, Japan’s premier drifting series, will be hosting the official 2006 season opener at California’s Irwindale Speedway on March 4th. The event will start off the D1 point series match of 2006, with all the D1 licensed drivers from Japan and North America.
“It’s the beginning of another exciting year for the sport of drifting” said D1 Grand Prix founder Daijiro Inada. “This March’s D1 Grand Prix season opener will be yet another fierce competition for a spot on the ladder."
Last month, Irwindale held the season-ending USA vs. JPN exhibition match, in which American J.R. Gittin took a surprising win by knocking out Japan’s best drifters. Gittin made history as the first U.S. driver to take the win in an exhibition match against the top Japanese drivers.
