Datsun people

I have a head of a very old z car ( inline 6 ) with valve cover
and 6 pistons.

I have no idea what year.

Whats something like this could be worth?
decent shape on all the parts.

I posted this up on ZChickz, we have a couple of regular members who have older gen Z’s, 240’s, 260’s, 280’s and 300’s, One guy in particular likes to rip the engines out of his and replace w/ V8’s LOL I’ll see if I can scare up some info for ya!

cool thanks

There should be a casting number on the head like P90 or N42. that will tell you how much it’s worth. Also the pipstons may be worth more or less depending if they are dished or flat tops. Got any pictures? I might want those for my 1975 280Z.

Well, that all depends… If it’s an N47 or N42 head off of a early 1st gen…you could get upwards of $100 just for the head as long as it’s straight and not too badly worn (I’m looking for one BTW…). If the pistons are dished, the turbo guys will eat those up…probably, oh…$125 - $150 for the set. The valve cover…unless it’s chromed or polished, not too much…maybe $25 - $30.

Hope this helps

Hope that helped out a little RustangJim!

also i forgot to add, The Thermostat is still hooked up to the head with the lines attached.
Also a Orangish Leather Seat I found from the car.
Its was definitley a 1st gen car, I really wanna say it was a 71’ or 72’ 240,260, 280
But, I am not 100% certain.

Ill get the numbers Asap and pics.

Thanks for Responding
I couldnt find anything.

No prob, you post up the pics and i will post them in the thread on zchickz…maybe I’ll ask about a Z car site for the older gens. Anyway I can help…

also this car is what we exactly had, same color and same interior

“240Z American general history:
-First model year 1970 and considered series 1. Had vents in the hatch, different piller emblems, all had E31 head, and a few minor other things. Are the most collectable 240Z’s. Only around 10,000 were produced.
-For the 1971 model the piller eblems changed to just a round Z emblem, no hatch vents, not very many w/ E31 head, and a few other changes. About 20,000 sold?
-1972 models didn’t have too many changes. Think the center console changed slightly, hubcaps were different, all should have E88 head, etc… About 30,000 produced?
-1973 carbs were changed to flatop SU’s due to emission requirements, bumpers extended due to crash requirements, etc… 73’s are the most common 240Z’s and was the last year of the 240Z.”

OK Jim now that is something to go on…I am such a Z head, What I’d give to have that Z in good condition…sigh :frowning: What I’d give to have a 68 Shelby Mustang 500GT or a 71 stingray…or a 68 Camaro…I am just an old car sucker…I’ll post up the pics for ya…

Thanks

GT500, and the 67 GT500KR was much more rare

The head should be either an N42 or N47. Good for high compression builds like I plan on doing. I frequent zdriver.com and got-z.com. Got-z isn’t really too much of a tech site, but there are a lot of 1st gen guys (and gals) on there who really know their stuff. Classicz.com and zcar.com haven’t really helped me all that much.

Jim here’s a link to the thread I started…posting pics over there to see if they help out…http://zchickz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2052

There are two diffetent types of E88 heads, neither of which have cutouts for fuel injection. Personally, if your friend is trying to sell the piece, sell it as a restoration item. The thermostat will probably get replaced anyway when someone buys it.

There are some road rally drivers and people doing carberator conversions that would like to have that since they’re pretty hard to find.

Also, if it gets cleaned up it’ll fetch a little more $$.

Jim you may want to post info on some of the aforementioned Z websites…or hmmmm letme think for a minute. You might consider contacting the guys at Sport Z Magazine at sportzmagazine.com (Bob Bell is the publisher, I know him pretty well) and tell him jinxxycat from zchickz sent ya. I don’t know if he can help you sell it but he might be able to get something in the next issue if you send him pics etc in for Ed’s Garage (Q&A section of the published mag). Just a thought… publisher@sportzmagazine.com :dunno: Don’t know how actively you are going to try to sell these parts but if they are sought after by some Z people, then why not make the $ that you can on it???

Wow Just WOW, Thank you very much

Anytime!!!

Really?
