what classic import car shows?
i will admit that overall, japan makes amazingly reliable cars. no one can deny that.
but every car manufacturers has issues with certain parts on their cars. every single one.

no sand in my vagina. i just have different results than he. hell i dont even drive new enough cars to benefit the automotive industry.
i agree with him that hondas are great cars and last a long time. even in the other thread where he and i started this discussion the other day.

Look on ebay, millions of classic cars for sale.I bet you cound even find some from the early 1900s.
I have had good luck with all the domestics I have had. Bad luck with some of the imports and good with others. Just depends I guess.
I had a strut rub issue with the GTO. Put new bushings on it and haven’t had an issue since.
My old 2000 Jetta VR6 I had for 14 months and hated it for 13 out of them. Went through a brake light a month. Wheel bearings lasted 6 months and when it was wet out it would mis somtimes until the engine warmed up all the way and dried out.
My dad’s 92 Bonnieville got the shit beat out of it for 14 years and finally was retired with 262k on the odo. The only reason it was scrapped was because it was starting to rot pretty bad. That car never had anything done to it except plugs, wires and brake pads. Never even so much as had to take the valve covers off.
my 4.3L s10 had 190xxx on it and it died due to a bad fuel pump… motor still ran like a fucking champ, even with a blown headgasket.
And i honestly can say ive put it through 5X the abuse you put your cackord through
Overheated 5 times
ran without coolant for over 5 miles crank case smoking and knocking like a bitch
I didnt change the oil one time for 28k, just kept adding
constant heaters
constant bouncing off the rev limiter
massivly abusive offroading
multiple, air catching jumps
multiple neutral drops
ramming various things and animals
and all i replaced was an axle and brake lines ![]()
My sister has a 69 olds cutlass that has 250,000 + on it with the orignal engine not rebuilt. That car has been beat to death and refuses to die.Its been rearended aleast three times.1 time bad enough to stuff the quarter panels almost to the wheel wells,it even busted the windshield. And she still drives it everyday with no problems. So to say american cars dont last is BS.You may prefer jap cars, but i still think they have along way to go to catch up to american quality.
PS
dont lean on the fender it will dent in.
meh. i love em all. all i can say is if i have my choice of cruising in the TL or the Sundance the TL wins everytime.
my sis’s old 98 taurus had 158k on original motor/tranny.
dude, idk if you didnt read the story or what, but the car companies that are in jeopardy right now dont get ANY revenue from people buying old classic cars. trust me, i love american muscle as much as then next red blooded american male, but the point im trying to get at is in the late 80’s-early 90’s domestic cars were shit for the most part. people realized this and moved on
the reason the companys are in jeopardy are because of millions of people like my mom who finally saw the light and decided to drive an import car. that 20 something k could have gone to one of the big 3… but after years of putting up with their shit, she was finally done with them.
there is a HUGE diffrence between a 69 cutlass and a 90-something gm product. they actually made good cars back then.
lol. you’ve obv never seen my car
maybe motor, def not tranny
liar
those are the ones that i like the most though. lol

I have to say, before I owned my BMW, I only owned domestic cars. Not necessarily because I preferred them, but instead because they were cheaper and easier to maintain.
The one car I will defend to the death was my '93 Cavalier. I bought the car with 90k on it and it did not give me a single fucking problem with the exception of the alternator, which is an easy fix on that car. It was strong enough, reliable as hell, and oddly enough, fairly comfortable. I really think I just got lucky with that car. I took good care of it and it showed that the previous owners did as well before me.
Now the difference for me is the feeling of quality. My BMW just completely goes above and beyond any of the cars I’ve ever owned, and did not cost me much more at all. The test of time has yet to be fulfilled but so far, I love this car. Comfort is 10x what any other car provided me and is generally much more fun to drive. ESPECIALLY in stock form.
I don’t think I’ll ever buy another domestic car as a DD.
you love shit!!!
lol j/k. its whatever floats your boat man. all im doing is telling everyone my personal experence and the main reason, in my mind, why the big 3 are going under
This one is pretty huge:
This is ground breaking.
I have 161K on my VW, and have complete confidence that it will make my 100+ round trip to work everyday. and get 45 MPG doing it. and pull really hard for a car that gets 45 MPG (chip and nozzles). and is still worth more than $4000. and drives better than most domestics with half the mileage.
I don’t want to be labeled a typical domestic hater like a lot of the others on here, but i have given both a fair shot. There are certain domestics that were pretty reliable, but if you were to take two random cars of the same vintage and same class, one American and one import, and see which one is more reliable over the next 10 years, I bet 85% of the time the import is better.
I understand what you are saying, but the way i look at it is the american car companys seen how cheaply made the jap car were beening made and figured if they can get away with it why cant we.So every american car over the years just started beeing made cheaper every year. Now they have become both about = so everybody doesnt know which is acutally better.I see many american cars with over 150,000 with orignal engines and trans and i also see jap cars with the same.My point being is that american cars used to be made very well but to compete with everybody else thay lowered there standards.I think any car can run for over 150,000 if its takin care of.There are going to be better designed cars than others that seem to hold up better.Take my car for example,it an 86 buick t type,is it the best car in the world,NO.But for its day it was a really good car.And in stock form was and still is pretty quick. Some poeple have alot of problems with them and other people have over 200,000 on them and they are still running strong.I think with the way the ecomony is now you will start seeing more and more cars with alot of miles, seeing nobody is wanting to spend money,or get into a loan for many years in fear of it getting worse.
My old Dakota had 265,000 miles on the original 3.9, clutch, and tranny. I did everything from off roading to jumping ditches to triple digit speeds to ice lake racing in that thing. I didn’t really take care of it but it treated me well. I guess it had beaten wife syndrome.
Jam you type pretty well for drunk posting at 4am.
my experience…
67 toyota stout pickup…sat in barn untouched for 16 years, pulled it out put new plugs wires and oil in, poured gas down carb and hooked battery on, the damn thing fired right up. still need a resto.
now my drivers since i got my license…
92 mazda b2200 pickup- put about 45k on it sold it at 143k with leaking rear end, burned coolant, bad oil leak, power steering leak, had grease grime everywhere underneath. in time i had it it needed new caliper and brakes, driveshaft, and clutch master cyl. sold at 143k
95 s10-replaced one hose and a wheelbearing. when the water pump went i did the motorswap so not gonna state rest of story. still have truck but put 25k on before swap and it was great. currently at 150k
92 dodge dakota sport with 3.9 v6 auto. bought it from friend who put on about 20k burnout miles. beat the piss out of this, rammed bedside with spiketooth bucket, used mini excavator to lift it out of snowpiles id ram into and get stuck in, took it offroading, drifted, had no back breaks but great fronts with no abs, id go in forward slam the brakes skid 80ft, then go reverse do the same, compleatly beat the snot out of it, ypipe and muffler fell off didnt care, kept driving it that way, sent to junkyard ith 203k on the clock with completely original drivetrain never rebuilt and i didnt put a single dime into it never checked oil never even put a damn battery in it. thing was the best damn beater i ever had. still ran good when i junked it, just wasent worthy of getting a sticker for inspection, even from a “hookup”
93 geo prism-bought from friend with 130k didnt do a single thing to it. beat on it as a rainy day driver, had window shatter on me and accidentally caught interior on fire. sold to friend as field car and it lasted them 2 months as a field car while still getting amazing gas milage. they put brick on pedal, jumped it on their mx track, went through massive puddles, finally junked it due to transmission giving out.
89 silverado-replaced entire exhaust, had 185k on motor, sold and i still see it driving a year later.
97 s10- bought with cracked head, fixed motor and drove it with foot to floor on the thruway everyday for about 5 months, had no power due to 4cyl but was amazing in the snow. had amazing heat too sold it with 5 codes popping up the check engine but still ran great. sold and made 300 bucks.
95 grand prix special edition - bought with cracked heads, fixed motor, drove 2 months, balljoint let go on me, got bad injectors, aftermarked starter with remote doors was weird and locked me inside car a few times. sold and made 1100 bucks.
98 zr2blazer - bought with knock, rebuilt motor, put new pads on, all balljoints, so far been good to me. needs o2sensor and muffler but runs great so far.
my conclusions- manuacturers had their good cars and their bad, so who gives a fuck about domestic versus import.
my managers 16 year old son came in to my work today complaining that his car was overheating. its a 95 monte with the 3100
pulled the dipstick and low and behold, the coolant had a cute little green tint to it. pop’d the coolant overflow and omg! it was brown. head gasket failure at 85k on a car he paid $1500 for a month ago. poor kid
Hows the oil look?Sounds like somebody dumped dexcool into the overflow and never flushed it out.If the rad is clean i woulndnt think its head gaskets.
