Dear domestic car companies

That sucks, but i guess anything can happen.

on a 3100? its not so much will it happen, but more WHEN will it happen

i told him to buy a honda

As i said on your other post. All cars can have problems. We had a 2000 something honda a couple of weeks ago that the trans blew up,it only had 66k on it.And was owned by an older person who didnt beat it to death. The diff blew up and took the case out.

was it auto? honda auto trannys are garbage, a friend blew his with like 40k on it once lol

Yes it was an auto.

:roflpicard:

Wow, it’s a good thing I wasn’t eating or drinking anything, otherwise I would’ve split it all over my laptop screen.

Nice GN in your avatar btw. Always been a fan

Truth, although it was definitely on its way out though.

I think the metal used to build them is still not up to what american cars are.Even the bolts snap easier.I am not refering to the technoligy that are in them.I think they are becoming more = every year though.

yeah i do lol. im too cheap to spend money on a car and i can get shit for free and i love to fix things up and use them. take a beater, few parts and a little time and i have something that i can pound for a few years and run into stuff without care. i keep my turbo k in good shape though.

well everything at carlisle is big lol. i just know of far more car shows featuring muscle and stuff than high quality import shows. especially around here.

Brian

I would have told him to take his $1,500 and go hit a Police auction.Buy a used '03+ Ford Police Interceptor and enjoy.

My '03 P71 currently has 178K miles on it and she runs and drives outstanding. The car went through 134K miles of Police abuse before i bought it.The only thing i HAD to replace on the car was a $50 coil pack.

lol this thread is like comparing apples to oranges

everyone’s personal experiences and tastes are different

Ill always Drive a GM, as long as theyre around… but i wouldnt honestly mind driving an import…

:word:

My friend has a 2004 TL and he’s on his 3rd trans right now with 68k on it.

Worst American car experience: My mom’s '95 Windstar. She bought it from West Herr in 2000 with 40K on the clock, and luckily she got the extended warranty. Unlike the “typical” American car buyer, she took great care of it. Headgasket failure in the first year, hello brand new engine from Ford. At the time I was in HS, and I knew 3 people whose parents owned Windstars with brand new engines. Soon after the transmission kicked the bucket, Ford had to eat that one too. It had a bunch of issues after that, followed by what would have been $1200 in transmission work after I discovered a leak 5 days before the warranty was up. For the next couple years she probably replaced everything at least twice, until she wisely sold it for $1200 needing some work. 90K van with low miles on the engine and transmission, plus tons of new parts should last a while right? It soon appeared FS on Craigslist at twice the price with a laundry list of new parts installed- computer, tie rods again, etc. 6 months later I saw that shiny red van in the junkyard. 92K on it, probably another transmission failure. Mom bought a used Subaru and never looked back.

I’ll drive just about anything, but numbers don’t lie. I still love my vintage American iron, but there are few cars I’d consider buying from the last 20 years.

Lets see…
1989 Toyota Supra Turbo - 165k on original everything, doens’t drip a drop of oil or burn any. Runs fantasticly smooth
1995 Audi 90QM - 198k still ran great
1997 Audi A4 QTM- 160k Still ran great
1997 Ford Escort coupe - 176k still running (Original eng+trans, only needed an alternator and maitence parts)
1997 Subaru Legacy Outback -211k still running (original everything, needed plugs, wires, brake lines, and brakes)
1997 Mazda 626 -scrapped at 126k
1998 GMC Savana 2500HD extended- 244k still running (Brakes, plugs, wires, and a fuel pump)

Every car maker, japanese, german or domestic has potential to make a decently reliable car. It’s all the luck of the draw.

Agreed.

Moral of the story, buy a DESCENT (ie. well taken care of) used car or a NEW car and take care of it. Then it will be fine. If you buy something that was truly abused, or abuse something yourself, it will suck. There are always exceptions, but those exceptions aren’t limited to domestics.

my dad is buying a honda.

/thread

i just gopt back from my uncle pete’s house. he traded in his gm truck for a honda ridgeline

he loves it

and djdstar that is something… i remember him having a fleet of gm trucks

haha yeah trust me i nearly shat myself…we still have 2 trucks, one is the grey one with 150k miles and my father still has a decently new one. my parents are real excited about the honda, but it’s been really hard working with the dealer to get what they want. they’re getting a natural gas civic, so they’re incredibly difficult to get. we have a gas pump installed in our garage. free driving!!!

Generally I agree.

Hell, the 92 Subaru I have now is just as solid feeling as my 02 WRX was. And I’ve put near as close to no work into it. Can’t say the same about the other Ford’s, and the Toyota I’ve owned.

Experiences do vary though.

That is bad ass!
