let the debate begin...

Quoted from “Ilya”…

"Guess you want to keep the debate going. I oblige.
  1. I have 190hp and for a daily driver and normal person, 190 is MORE than enough.
  2. It’s fail because they are over charging by a LOT for a product that you can get from elsewhere for the same price that has a HISTORY of being good. Brand recognition goes a long way in times like this. Take a marketing class at HVCC. You’ll see what I’m talking about. If this car was going for 25k, it wouldn’t be a fail. But that fact that it is 45k is absurd.
  3. Again, did you read my posts? I am a fan of CARS. I gave the Z06 credit. I gave all American trucks credit. Because Europe and Japan put out like 60 great cars combined, and America doesn’t put out more than 6 or 7 (currently speaking - last few years), and me stating that…does NOT make me an import fan boy. It’s just how it is. You are the fan boy because you are too blind to realize it and can only say that,

“Well…well…some of us don’t want quality! We just want power! There! Take that!”

Give it a rest. Generally speaking…(I’m sure American cars have some pro’s over others such as raw power but generally speaking)…Non-American cars > American cars. End of story."

since when is 190hp MORE then enough power?? Its not. Their is never enough power until its enough to make your butthole pucker and your scared shitless. Thats when you reach your braking point, so are you saying 190hp makes your butthole pucker??

This is complete bullshit. America makes 6-7 good cars?? Maybe in your eyes, not in mine. This debate could go on forever, your a import lover, and im a domestic lover, however I give imports credit, where credit is due and both imports and domestics have their advantages and disadvantages but so say they only make a few good cars is obscured. When you driving down the street’s during the day, what do you mostly see? Jeeps? Cavaliers? Cobalts? F-150’s? Silverado’s? Ya, I guess you must be blind enough to notice that all these make up half the traffic on the streets, and the other half is imports, such as civics, altima’s, corrola’s and such.

I’ll throw in my 2 cents for what it’s worth.

When the Domestic market occupies only 50% of the market

half the traffic on the streets, and the other half is imports, such as civics, altima’s, corrola’s and such.

It’s not that great of a market base, since when you go to Europe 50% won’t be American.

What exactly are we debating, here?

some people like imports some people like domestics. I own one of each

/thread.

Me too, if you count the bike as an import (which it is)…
:shifty

My (immediate) family has owned nothing but GM vehicles (sans 1 Toyota pickup and 1 PIECE OF SHIT Chrysler caravan or w/e in the 90’s) and we have had good luck with them. They are good cars IMO and are built for the long haul so long as you take proper care of them.

How this all started for those who aren’t following:

I said in the SHO thread that I would rather have an M45 for that $45k price tag because it’s nicer, hast he same power, and comes with an ultra reliable Nissan engine.

since when is 190hp MORE then enough power?? Its not. Their is never enough power until its enough to make your butthole pucker and your scared shitless. Thats when you reach your braking point, so are you saying 190hp makes your butthole pucker??

  1. I said 190hp for a NORMAL person who ISN’T a power hungry enthusiast is MORE than enough. I can pass who I need to pass with ease. I can get up every major road that goes up a hill, etc. For a daily driven car with a normal citizen (again, not a power hungry one), 190hp is more than enough to get the job done.

  2. “This debate could go on forever, your a import lover, and im a domestic lover, however I give imports credit, where credit is due and both imports and domestics have their advantages and disadvantages”

Is that not what I said in the other thread? “One trick pony” ring a bell? I was referring to the power. That’s the only pro of American cars in my opinion. That and the fact that they are made in the US which means a lower price tag. I gave credit where credit is due. I like all cars, be it American, etc. I remember mentioning the Z06, the Ford Edge, etc. Can you PLEASE stop reading selectively?

You’re going to call Cavaliers, Escorts, Taurus’s, etc. good cars? You’re shitting me. Honda and Toyota shit all over those cars with the Corolla, Camry, Accord, etc.

Also, don’t bring trucks into this conversation since I gave kudos to EVERY TRUCK BUILT IN AMERICA in the other thread.

In conclusion, stop reading selectively.

And just to put it out there: I am more than happy to debate/argue with you. Don’t take it the wrong way. I don’t want people on here hating me. At the end of the day, we’re all car fans. That’s all that matters.

Camrys man, they outsell every car in our country almost every year

This doesn’t mean that they are the best cars out there, though…

Anything will last if you take good care of it. I don’t buy into the “Toyota Reliability” or any of that bullshit. Buy what you like and take care of it, and it will last a long time…

Yes and no. Parts used to manufacture cars makes a big difference. Like everything on this earth (including you and I), it WILL break down and fall apart eventually (unless you replace everything of course).

no shit, but if its the top selling car you will see more of them than anything

yeah thats true, but when it breaks down and falls apart is the important part.

Most people don’t keep new cars long enough to have major things go wrong with them anyway…

Exactly, and as far as I can tell from the cars I’ve been in: Jap/Euro > American (generally speaking - there will obviously be exceptions).

right, but what if you buy a used car with 70k? wouldnt it be nice if it could make it another 70 k with no problems? I never kept new cars long til my xB, its got around 140k on it now…im going to keep it as long as I have to make no major repairs.

This is a myth. This isn’t 1988 anymore. Domestics actually got a little more strict in their QC dept’s over the last oh I don’t know, decade or two…

You can call engineering reliability into something BS and although it’s true most car enthusiasts take care of their stuff, most of the general public does not.

It also takes more talent and foresight to be able to incorporate things into the design that make the machine easier to service, less susceptible to breakdown, sturdier overall, without incurring an unreasonable purchase price or negatively impacting manufacture-ability.

I think that Toyota manages to do all of this pretty well.

They did? Is that why they slap huge rebates and employee discounts on all their cars? Or is that just them being nice.

Very true.

In my opinion, GM stepped up their game in the quality department after they canned the Cavalier. Coming from someone who has owned one, and now own’s the replacement…

The jury is still out on them , they havent been out long enough. As far as i can see the Cobalt is the same as a cavalier, aside from the SS, those are pretty nice.

That’s strictly marketing, has nothing to do with the quality of their products…

People buy more of things at lower prices than at higher prices, remember? Going back to 11th grade here… :lol
