First I’ve seen this football play and it’s already banned. Pretty creative, everyone is an eligible reciever. The link has the formation picture. I know, :gives:
Looks like it would make the game more entertaining. I like it
i read that not every player is eligible its more like with the shifts and everything the refs do not know who is eligible. the was also a problem with the players numbers…
I am hoping bravada can chime in he has a lot more knowledge in this than i ever will.
Yea i think youre right, I read it again. Everyone wears the number of an eligible reciever, but the refs nor the defense knows which ones will actually be the recievers.
isnt the point of the game to try to figure out who is going to catch the ball and stop that from happening? well then just fuckin get a better defense then to stop it.
it first hit the headlines big time during last offseason.
Was started in the fall of 2007 by a coach out in California who had a team that just couldn’t compete. Very interesting idea, but would not work in NCAA or NFL because of the way the rules are written there, but worked fine based on NFHS (High School) Rules.
Really drove us nuts as far as officiating it. Problem is, in high school, you can be ineligible by number OR by position. Therefore, if number 12 is lined up as a left guard, he’s ineligible. If number 75 is at Wide Receiver, he’s ineligible. But then you’d get legal shifts and all kind of crazy stuff where it was difficult to tell who was eligible and who was not. Really, it basically only matters where guys are at the snap.
It made a mockery of it, really. Its one thing to be inventive like the spread offense, veer options, etc… This was trickery without skill to try and level the playing field. Some think thats fine, I personally don’t.
But the problem is there are limitations within the offense of what you are allowed to do. It’s high school, not the pros. If they wanted to do this in the pros, I’d be fine with it, but it won’t because of the way the rules are written.
Really, the biggest thing is that there needs to be a similarity between the rules of NCAA and NFHS. There are SO many different rules, its very frustrating especially when you are going from Friday Night’s on the field to Saturday Afternoons.
So it sounds like we won’t be seeing this in any games over the HS level? Do you think they will be changing the HS rules to keep this from happening next season?
I absolutely agree with you. That is the type of offense set that can be indefinitely different and unstoppable without any true talent on the field.
From the link posted above, it looks like that has happened and it won’t be legal in HS any longer.
The only school I was aware of that even experimented with it in the WPIAL last year was Mars. It didn’t really catch on here yet, but in less talented areas of the country I wouldn’t have been surprised had it become pretty popular.
mars really needed it after losing billy bair.
