Dell E1705 Not powering up

I went to start it up last week and it was turning on as usual. I was watching TV and when I turned back around to the computer it was off. When I went to hit the power button the Left LED lights up, then the middle one, then they both turn off and nothing happens. I grabbed another power supply from work and ruled that out. I bought another battery (I needed one anyways) and its not that. I took the memory out and flipped it around and re-inserted and etc. One time I did this the caps LED and the numbs LED both lit up but then per usual nothing happens. I have tried to reseat the RAM like 10 times. And when I hold the function key down and hit the power button, all LOCKS keys flash once and then turn off. I’m guessing from the dell support site its a motherboard issue. It seems like a lot of E1705’s have had the same issue. But I figured I would ask around. Any more suggestions?

I can extend my warranty for $170 and they can fix it or I can order the MB for $490. I’m leaning towards extending my warranty. Thoughts?

probably the board, ive had a few IBMs that did similar things.

**** Dell and their proprietary stuff man… $490 for a mobo is off the wall. I’d say just go with the warranty, but maybe you can get a mobo off ebay?

still not worth it, you can buy a new laptop for 500 with a decent warranty.

Not an E1705. Given the circumstance this is hard to say but the E1705 is one of the better laptops out there. Just about everything is upgradeable. I have the Inspiron 9400(the predecessor) and it is awesome. Everything is upgradeable. Check google for mobo options.

still, i wouldnt shell almost 500 into a laptop thats out of warranty.

Thats what I think i need. Thing is I would be looking at $200 after shipping when I can extend my warranty for $170 and get another year out of it. I think I am going to go that route.

BTW Shawn, I keep vids on my external HD.
