Diagnosing Acura Error Lights

Hey I’m posting up for a friend who has a 2008 TSX. He currently has a check transmission light and emissions light on, and Ray Laks hasn’t done shit to help him. He had them change both 02s and still the emission light is on. Tried to go to autozone and have it scanned but they can only scan check engine lights and not the others. Anyone have any ideas as to what to do without dumping money back into it at the dealership? He just needs the lights to go away so he can sell it. The car runs perfectly fine, just the damn lights.

I can’t imagine the dealer didn’t get a code for either light, and on top of that couldn’t reset the lights… Did they reset the lights and THEN they came back on? Or were they ALWAYS on even after he took it to the dealership?

Who is this friend of yours? This story sounds wayyyy tooo familiarrrr…

Well depending on Miles on the car, its going to be a catalyst efficiency (does it smell like eggs from exhaust). If its the 4 cylinder then you probably have a clogged cat… that only has X2 02 sensors. If its the v6 then you should have 4. Top ones read air fuel and bottom ones read how the cats are holding up. If they replaced them all and no change in engine light then that is what I am thinkin.

As far as the Transmission that is a whole other ball game. The amount of sensors on my Acura Tl Transmission was annoying. I replaced about all of them. Not hard but expensive to say the least. If the trans is acting funny in a certain gear there is a good chance its that solenoid or the pressure sensor for that gear.

They replaced both 02 sensors, about a month after the emission light came back on as well as the transmission. Transmission was never on before that.

Hahaha does the name Dan Maz ring a bell?

Yeah definitely the four cylinder. Both O2s replaced as I said and still no change. Exhaust doesnt smell funny however…

Is there a way to scan for trans codes?
