Check engine light on, need to pass inspection

Well i have a P0420 on, im guessing its a back post cat O2 sensor, or its the cat itself. I just dont want to spend 70 bucks on the sensor, or spend whatever to have the cat replaced, since im low on money here. Can anyone help me narrow it down between the cat or the sensor?

spend it on the sensor, replace it yourself. if the light doesnt go out, return the sensor and get cat replaced

i was thinking of an even quicker fix, just buy an O2 sim, but i dont know if it will get rid of this code.

i have a rear O2 sensor out of a 02 impala. cut the cat and resonator and put in a simulator. there was nothing wrong with it. PM me if you are interested.

yea, i just bought a sim online. so it should be here sometime this week. thanks guys

how many miles are on yor car

Gm warrenty is 8 years 80,000 miles on the cat…

i think his car is a 96

My son’s Eclipse check engine light was on the day I was takin it for inspection. I disconnected the battery, light went out, passed emissions. Light never came back on. Sometimes a loose gas cap sets it off.

its a 97 and i have 108,000 mile on it.

well, i bought an O2 sim put it on, reset the computer and drove the car about 80 miles now the check engine light is back on, i havent got a chance to check the codes b/c it just happened about an hour or so ago. Can anyone help me, anyone know a place i can get inspected and pass?
