check engine light came on

hey,

I removed the header ‘heat shield’ (rusty bolts were loose and the thing was rattling when driving)… i drove the car for 20 mins… then my check engine light came on…

I’m thinking I may have damaged the 02 sensor?

anyway, anybody know a place that can run some codes for me? im in mississauga, anyplace that wont try to sell me what I dont need and doesnt charge an arm and a leg…

thanks guys.

Run the codes yourself. If the car runs fine, then what’s the problem.

Disconnect the battery, then reconnect.

IIRC The check engine light only comes on when there isn’t enough oil pressure. The O2 sensor will have no effect on the check engine light. I have driven my car with all of the O2 sensors wires burnt off and no indication’s.

if theres low oil pressure the “oil pressure warning” light comes on… this light is specifically called “malfunction indicator light” which means emission control problem…

eitherway, i got to the ECU, ran the code, got 33… O2 sensor… I checked the cables, they look fine… so im thinking the sensor just died.

i’ll remove it tomorrow and try to find a new one…

drving without the sensor working wont have negative effects? wont increase gas consumption (just curious)?

thanks guys

oil light comes on at 8lbs of oil pressure, by this time your motor could be fubard

What 240 do you have? i was basing this on the S13 like mine, there is only a check engine light when the oil pressure is too low.

No ill effects except running rich. You will go through gas faster, and might foul up your CAT, but this is after long periods of having a O2 sensor problem.
