Not really going to tell you much, clearly it’s locking up to some degree, can you provide more specifics on the diff?
I was also there for the test drive. To me it acted just like a welded diff. But the way the pinon gear casing thing is designed (VLSD) I don’t know how it could be welded. I didn’t see the diff opened up so maybe it’s a clutch type LSD? If it was an aftermarket clutch type, it should make some noise when it engages/disengages, but I couldn’t hear anything but your exhaust.
Also, was this VLSD from a 240sx, Skyline, or a J30? I think I remember you telling me it was from a R32 Skyline…
And when installing the output shafts there was a metal cylinder that “fell out”, it was about 1" diameter and 1.5" long. Looking at an exploded diagram of a R200V (240sx VLSD) there wasn’t any parts that resembled it. Jeff decided to leave the piece out.
i found out it was a piece for different output shafts. and reading more and more about it there is no possible way mine wuold have fit w/o taking it out.
Archie (OshiNA6) says it was from a skyline, but i think its from a Z32 NA 300zx based upon the output shaft that came with it.
State farm provides free towing when yuo get full coverage on a car. And ive already ised that twice on this car, when i thought the MAFS when. Turned out to be bad O2 sensor.
Also when i spin one tire the other tire has about a 10 degree lag then it turns. I have hella grip, but the turning is scaring me, and making me concered about the spines, and the tranny. Taking the car to Opitz Transmission wednesday to have it looked at. and hopefully have a damn answer to this.
Could be possible, but then again, the previous owner may have switched the output shaft just to suit the Silvia that it was in…
For some reason it only came with one output shaft on the diff when I bought it (which I explained to you).
I’m not sure what happened to the other one, or if both were swapped out and one was just placed in there when sold.
Are there any external physical differences between the R200V lsd in the R32 Type M (HCR32) or the Z32, other than the output shafts?
From what I read on FreshAlloy/Zilvia.net etc, the HCR32 diff has a higher final drive (4.36:1).
The HCR32 had 5 bolt output shafts though, so a swap to an S13 would have required changed either output shafts or axles.
The Z32 diff has a lower final drive (4.08:1 I think).
So I guess the best way to find out would be to count the teeth on the ring and the spur and check that way.
Well took it to lia nissan after hours and had the whole rear end apart. It is infact a HCR32 diff. i added that oil additive too. We drove it around before and after working on it, and still makes that incredibly loud knock/boom/bang when turning tight / parking spot. I had 2 nissan techs at lia, 4 nissan techs in lathem(i think thats where i went.) tell me that the vlsd is loud and its normal.
I might be looking into a Helical lsd from a S15 silvia. Ive found a bunch and there going for around 300 used. and better yet none come with the pumpkin so thats less wieght for shipping.
anyone reading this knows a local/cheap/good place to get a aluminum/whatever 1-peiece driveshaft made lemme know.
Also i found a Quife 6speed dogbone tranny, but they go for 5K. lol maybe later on, like in 20 years when i have 5K just laying around
(240sx’s KA motor were only made with 5spd, but in japan theres a 6spd for the SR20, but some say its unreliable, and also it wont bolt upto a USDM 240 :sad )
Are you sure it’s not a clutch type LSD?
Uhhh no stock LSD should be noticeably loud, something’s off there…I highly doubt the original owners of R32’s would have been very happy if every time they took a tight turn their rear ends clunked…
Maybe it’s not stock?
Most LSD’s are clunky and loud after they have been used for a while. (Try a Ford 9 inch locker–really loud) --If you get the S15 diff–make sure you get the output shafts too. I do not think they are the same as the US ones.
Just installed a Nismo LSD in my car.
but its wierd cuz it got fully rebuilt 3000 miles ago, then when i aquired it i had some work done to it. so in a sense its brand new. ive put maybe 400 miles on it, and even when i took it out on the first test run it did it.
but i think its quieting down, i dont hear it much now, it only really does it when i pull into a parking space. o well, i found a Helical for 323 shipped, and bought it. all i have to do is to take out the stock open diff from that pumpkin and slap it in. im also gunna have some “work” doen to it. maybe bigger final drive i dunno yet. i just payed for it 3 hours ago, so ill see what happens when it gets here.
BTW if you got aim, im me, i got some have some 240 talk with you.
Sorry–No AIM --Feel free to PM me on here though.
