The merkur also had a nasty habit of starting on fire
no it’s RWD and 4cyl turbo… it’s the mustang SVO motor but without intercooler… I’ve seen a guy with a 12 second one at NYIRP… intercooler, turbo, injectors and a little tuning… he said he was just getting started…
Oooh, some guy did a full build on an almost 16 second car. I guess it isn’t an unreliable pos from the 80s that looks retarded.
it was ahead of its time and an interesting (I hesitate to say important) part of automotive history…
can you name any other 4cyl. RWD turbo cars in the US in 86’
It was still a piece of crap.
coming from a guy that has the most unreliable, pointless motor known to man… the rotary.
brian
I don’t know anything about the history of 4 bangers, but the 1986 mazda rx7 turbo II was rwd, turbo, lighweight and awesome.
lolz redsuns
starion/conquest, 951…
it really wasn’t… a lot of the sales / reputation problems were just poor marketing. By 1986 standard it was a good car with a lot of features (heated leather, power everything, etc etc). it got a very bad reputation because it looks so unusual.
lollzzzz that’s why my 16 year old car runs 13s stock and rx7s own world records on every track they can get too.
oh wait, the rx8 won the 2008 rolex 24 against ferraris and porsches?
the 26b won so far first overall in lemans it was banned?
it’s not a good motor for boring street driving tho.
edit, nvm none of that is relevant to the read
and the conquest tsi was a super fun car
ooooooh 13’s stock. thats mind blowing.
the only thing FD/FC’s are good for is putting LS1’s in.
brian
haha okay guy, you live in warsaw and drive an 88 plymouth and a geo. you sure know a lot.
i sure do.
i was just showing you how stupid you sound making fun of a car you know nothing about that actually is a pretty good platform.
yeah you sure showed me. I guess shitty old piles of shit with shitty chassis and shitty motors are truly great and hold lots of time attack/drag records and are desirable by higher class citizens.
it’s not like the cosworth, it’s like a fucking cavalier
but hey why don’t you go pick one up. you and your sister can go to a drive in movie and make more kids to populate warsaw. then you can drive by the elementary school in it and all the 7 year olds can get super impressed by how awesome a platform it is. I bet it’s a great car for muddin and cow tippin and what the fuck ever people do in towns with a population less than 500.
1997 Chevrolet Malibu: Motor Trend Car of the Year
wat??
WILL!
i guess you showed me…
actually all you did was prove your ignorance and stupidity about a very underrated car.
Brian
LOL.
Reliant Turbo touched a nerve there.
I’ve got a rotary tattoo. haha
ENOUGH OF THIS PALAVER! LET’S GET THE SHOW ON THE ROAD!
The Mustang II was a direct response to the energy crises brought on by the OPEC oil embargoes of the early ’70s. Looking at the bloated 1973 Mustang, Ford was sure the way to go for ’74 was smaller. So it slapped a new body atop the Pinto to create the Mustang II and skipped V-8 engines altogether.
Actually, when these cars came out, it was a smart move on Iaccoca’s part. IIRC they sold really well initially. They still make decent drag cars too… but I’ll never own one
