You’re kidding right??? Corvairs are actually pretty great cars, that just got a terrible rap from God Damn Ralph Nader. Basically, the Corvair handles very much like Porsches of the same era… yes they will snap quickly into oversteer, but it’s a F-ing rear-engine rwd car. Of course GDRN decided to write a book on the Corvair, and the American public wasn’t ready for a mass produced, air-cooled, rear-motor rwd car. But the Corvair is certainly not one of the worst mass produced cars ever.

tornados?
Once again… are you serious??? While most Domestic Performance enthusiasts blame the Toronado for ushering in FWD, you can’t dispute the fact that it was way ahead of it’s time. It’s an engineering marvel, and really the lessons learned on the Tornado kept GM in business. Had GM not made the move to FWD it never would have survived the dark ages (late 70s - late 80s). Of course, GM brass (as always) had it’s collective head up it’s ass and took the idea too far. GM should have never taken full size cars to RWD, and certainly not it’s luxury division. There’s a slow (as anything w/ the ‘sleeping giant’ GM is) progression back to RWD going on now. But the fact can’t be denied that the bread and butter of GM’s car sales is FWD.
Besides, w/o the Toronado we never would have had the Hurst Hairy Olds!!!
