Distracted Driving, suspicious math

So according to the latest study, 8 in 10 crashes are caused by distracted drivers.

I love these studies that always seem to find more than 60% of crashes are caused by what ever they are studying. Be it speeding, drinking, road rage, red light running etc etc. What ever the infraction it seems someone can find a way to blame it for more than 60% of crashes.

“Oh, people can come up with statistics to prove anything, Kent. 14% of people know that.” -Homer Simpson

Do you not believe though that people driving with their head up their ass is the most common cause of accidents? :gotme:

oh i fully agree, im not doubting that. people are idiots and id say the great majority of them drive like retards. im just agreeing with his point of how you can do a “study” and have the results always come out the way you want. its all about taking the right samples.

Yeah, that’s why there are “lies”, “damn lies” and “statistics”…

That is because if you are doing one, you are doing the other.

I’d say being distracted while speeding, drinking a 40, pissed off and not seeing a light would cause an accident. Actually I’d like to see a study group that they sent people out in thoose conditions…

I’d totally pay to see that study.

No, I believe distracted drivers are a problem. An 80% problem, I have my doubts. Especially since last month it was 70% were red light runners, the month before that 60% were speeding, or when MADD was pushing to drop the limit to .08 some high percent was drinking.

The truth though is some people simply are terrible drivers. They’re terrible while changing radio stations, terrible while talking on the cell phone, and terrible when paying 100% attention to driving. Unfortunately when these bad drivers get into accidents they get lumped into a statistic, because chances are they were doing something more than just driving.
