DIY: Contemporary concrete fire pit

What material are you using to make your Forms and are you using a special concrete? Are you using rebar or wire mess for structural support? Looks like this could be a fun project.

Added some wax today and gave it a bit of a shine. I wanted to make it more “earthy” so I kept all the voids exposed.

these letters were supposed to pull out…but to my suprise, i couldn’t get them out. So… it’s not nearly as subtle as I was hoping.

To be honest, I felt it was a bit cheesy, which is why i have it on the back side. I was trying a test with using laser cut lettering out of plastic to use as a stamp. It didn’t work. I couldn’t get the letters out easiy, so i left them in. I used mold release on them and didn’t think they were going to be a problem. I wanted it to be subtle, even fill it with a similar color cement, but instead it’s obviously white. I had a better quote i wanted to use, but I chose something that was bold and larger letters so I could pull them out. Again, it didn’t work as planned, but it was still a learning experience. next time i’ll mix up a stamp using silicone.

Melamine Board. The mold for this was simple, took about 30mins to make and sealed the seams with silicone. Annoyingimity (Dan) made a plastic insert for me for the hole. I used a concret addative from CHENG (concreteexchange.com) that has a fiberglass fibers, color, and other addatives. I didn’t use a wire mesh for this particular size because the fiberglass fibers mixed in are more than suffice.
