Seriously…I wish I could get my education for free… I would get a masters in acoustical engineering, then a PhD in underwater basket weaving
:spank:
I’ll just stop my ranting because it’s turning into something I didn’t mean it to be…
:sword:
No hard feelings for the Obama voters, I hope he does this country well and certain things don’t happen :grouphug:
I can arrange for you to get 75% of your tuition back, and the remaining 25%…
If you were a manager, would child psychology be covered?
Even if tuition was free, I would NOT go back to school
ugghh, I hated school
:word:
wordddd
So true
My schooling is FREE. :eekdance:
Of course, it’s not useless. Sigh. Michael Jackson can’t even afford his umbrella man…
as much as this could suck, it would do more than another stimulus package.
IMO the best way for the govt to improve/help with the higher education issues right now is to ‘fix’ the financial aid system. As was already stated, it needs to be completely independent of what your parents make, and give everyone a ‘free ride’ to a community school for the first 2 years. So your parents were able to save up for a few of yours education, congratulations. Not everyone was able to have parents like that. If they did this it would give everyone the same chance at a higher education, and would also help out the economy. Because the parents wouldnt be saving/hoarding every extra cent they get and would be able to put that 5/10/30/whateverk back into the economy.
But keep the requirements ‘high’. You have to keep a 3.0gpa. not hard but it will weed out the ones who dont want to be there. Now, if you went this route, you should already know that this is pretty much how it is now. Only diff is you wouldnt need to ‘apply’ (fafsa etc) for financial aid. By finishing HS you are guaranteed this. Oh, and have this cover the required books/course materials.
Once your done with the two years at a cc, you then go to a state school. Again, as long as you have a 3.0+ your education is paid for you with no ‘application’. go for two years, get your BA in whatever, and get a fucking job that uses your degree. If you don’t have one in say 1yr - you have to start paying back your tuition costs until you do. This would prevent the retards from settling at a retail job because they got a manager spot making 50k a year. If you dont utilize it you pay it back.
Now if you want your MA/PhD then thats on you to figure out how its getting paid for.
As some have already stated, a 4yr degree is pretty much required to get a decent job these days (please dont chime in if your the exception. obv there are exceptions), so why should the gov stop at HS?
Now, for the people that think this shouldn’t happen because you are/did pay back your loans, why? Your argument is just to spite them. You had to pay them back, why shouldnt they. i understand it, to a point. Chances are if your loans are paid off/almost paid off, or your already paying them you started school more than a few years ago. The economy was completely different, tuition costs weren’t the same. Interest rates were prob lower etc. Im gonna go back to my first sentence in this post, but look at this as a stimulus package instead of a bailout. The govt is looking to get the most money back into ‘economy’ instead of making one bank rich. Easiest way to do that is to get rid of one of the biggest debts in the US. I mean, which would be better for the government right now, a single 600$ check to everyone in the US, or forgivng current student loans to put back ~600$ a month per student loan carrier back into the economy? I mean yes it would suck that you would have to see the person who blew their student loan on shit get out of it, but the boost it would make in the economy would come back around to everyone.
Please dont think i’m 100% for this. There’s obviously better ways to do this, as already mentioned in the thread. Like limiting the interest on a loan. I do not feel the banks should be 100% stripped of the interest. They did let you borrow the money so they should get something, but it needs to be a much smaller %, like .5-1%. That would take a 100k, 15yr loan @ 2.7% from ~140500 to 115 or below.
Also, the only way this would work is if they did something to the education system at the same time, otherwise people will be put right back in the same situation with a ton of loans.
Thats about all i got. its 3am, i work at 9, and i cant read what i typed right now lol. ill prob edit it after work tmrw.
That idea is just silly. So lets not give back to those that have worked many many years, lets give more to a generation that has been spoiled for the most part. You will never respect money, if you don’t have to pay it back. I see way too many college grads that keep spending money likes life is just one huge student loan. Go ahead and pay back 100k, learn a life lesson. If we pay off their loans, they will just go out and buy a Vette or BMW with the money saved, and still be in the position we are in.
The only reason a BA is needed to get a job these days, is because student loans were so easy to get, and schools pushed hard saying that you “needed” a college degree. MANY MANY jobs do not need a degree. If we went back to money for college being LESS government backed, less people would have degrees and then less companies will be able to keep such silly requirements.
Would you rather me as a pilot 1. know how to fly a plane, or 2. know how to do complex algebra while psychoanalyzing my childhood? Yea, thats my point.
Does every waitress need a degree? What about toll booth workers?
We as a country have just gotten silly about stuff, because money was cheap and easy to borrow. We have a generation of kids that will have to pay off 100k + loans while enjoying their career making 15-20 bucks an hour. Does not make sense. Of course the ones teaching out kids, who are the centers of so called knowledge, won’t ever tell them the truth. You’ve been duped.
In the end, I don’t want MY money, being taken in taxes, then given to ANOTHER person because of their personal choices. You wana go to school, you wana make more money, then you get the loan, and pay if off once you get done with school. Life is a bitch, everyone needs to stop wanting “free rides” everywhere. Someone has to pay for that free ride, and we will end up in this huge PONZI scheme like medicaid, medicare, and social security.
These are typically paid for through grants (public and private) if it’s a useful program.
I don’t think there needs to be a “level playing field”. More merit based scholarships would be better than free schooling for everyone.
Do people who are not maintaining a 3.0 GPA have to pay back the government when the fail out? Will people get to obtain waivers when they have a disability?
Maybe we need to make college tougher so that less people decide to enroll.
Did you read the part below that? I never said it was a perfect idea, but with the way student loans were given and the way the banks ‘marketed’ them, the banks kind of shot themselves in the foot. They were so willing to lend the money, knowing that it wasnt going to be used for school. To go to NCCC for 2 semesters, Chase had me set up with a 43000$ loan. Who the fuck needs that much money for school. that would pay for tuition, books, room/board, food for two semesters and youd still have 35000$ left to do what you want. obv i didnt take that much but just to show, the banks didnt help to where taking a little bit of the interest is better than getting nothing back.

Ok, so we need to stop/limit higher education? If the US wants to stay a superpower, that is the dumbest possible solution to the problem at hand. We are moving away from the typical factory job/cashier/waiter/etc and moving into a higher educated, service related jobs. Computers are becoming a lot more sophisticated and easier to use/make that they are taking over most of those jobs.
Now, are some of those jobs still around. Of course, and there will always be the special few that make a career out of pushing a button at a factory to make the conveyor belt move, and making the career out of the typical mcjob. and no, obv they dont need a degree, hense why I said if get school paid for you, and you dont use the degree, you have to pay it back.
And to answer your question, id choose pilot two. 1 is just taking home a paycheck, and 2 sounds like he’s willing to put in extra work and has extra knowledge to where if a problem were to arrise that he needed to take care of - he could. Better example would have been a cashier

We have definitely gotten silly when it comes to money. With how easy it is to get credit, loans, etc not much its hard not be dumb with money. And again, i already said that for the most part, what i had said wouldnt change much. The only reason your pissed is because you already went to school and paid back the loans. But its still selfish to not want to do something to make it better. Hell, im going to have to pay back my loans for going to school, and even if this is done 5-10 years from now - i wouldnt care because its fixing the problem for the future. I wouldnt look at it as ‘wtf. why should they get it provided and i didnt, thats not fair :(’. lol thats just childish.
I understand phd’s are usually paid for, thats why i didnt say its up for you to pay, just figure out how its getting paid for
And yes, if the students dont keep a 3.0 and fail out/fall below the requirement. they have to pay back the loans.
