Do you use StyleXP?

I was looking around and came across StyleXP. Does anyone use it? Is there anything I should be worried about if I choose to use it? How "dangerous"is it to change boot screens using StyleXP? Latly, how much will this app. slow down the boot time of the comp if Im using a different boot screen?

I saw some reviews of it here http://www.download.com/Style-XP/3640-2326_4-10498238.html

Pros: Offers a way to customize your Windows desktop. Your taskbar and windows are very customizable. Many sites offer great premade skins for this program.

Cons: Uses RAM rather than acting as something in explorer.exe which is actually probably impossible. It’s shareware. A great alternative is the Neowin Uxtheme.dll patch which offers the same results, without the purchase or use of system resources. You can use the same exact themes you used for StyleXP too!

Possibly dangerous

Cons: Product contains potentially dangerous features. ZoneAlarm Pro notified me that this product LOGS MOUSE MOVEMENTS, KEYSTROKES, and more. This product appears to have tried to send data through the Internet. Even if this program does not use any logged data, what is to stop other software from exposing this data?

It looks like TGT Software has some explaining to do.

USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Pros: none

Cons: It make you pay just to patch your uxtheme.dll and may harm your system if you install a patch o a service pack, it uses XP skinning engine by default. I recommend using WindowBlinds because it offer its own engine that uses less resource that xp’s native and can skin more parts of the OS such as shelltyles and can’t be harmed by patches or service packs, supports traslucent titlebars

I’ve used both style XP and window blinds

good if you got a real fast rig or dont do a lot of stuff with it… other wise, their both resource hogs from what I remember.

shit, I use windows classic themes so… lol Cool to mix shit up though  the same old skins get boaring after a while

Ive used anything and everything… in the end its not worth it, last night I just did a format and fresh install and it runs soooo nice!

lol I love that

shit seems so fast

yeah it does… well I had windows so tweaked out before, my 3.0 HT was running slower than my server, a 1.7 celeron. Im happy its up to speed again.

WindowBlinds > StyleXP

Vista Inspirat> all.

So its not really worth it then in the long run becasue it will bog down the machine?

according to the user reviews, windowblinds doesnt? I doubt that but give it a shot.

I was running these programs on a celeron processor with minimal memory… so thats to be expected anyway

I’ve had StyleXP for a long time. Never gave me any problems that I could see. Perhaps I will take it off and see if my system speed improves.

My computer is fucked right now with not enough RAM to even run Photoshop and I have WindowBlinds running with no problems

no shit… maybe it is good then  I last ran style xp and anytime I’d do any 3D stuff (games, modeling, ect) I’d have to unload it first (gave me a noticible increase in speed)… then again, like that review said, it’s doesnt really use any resources

When I look it says it’s only taking up 600k of memory usage

wow… thats awesome, never really noticed that.

does window blinds (cant remember off the top of my head) do transparency and all that other stuff too? thats not bad at all

It does… but I’m only using the 50 day free trial for now. ( I had the full version a while ago :snky: )

So windows blinds is the one to use then?

It’s my personal favorite
