Say I make a poll and ask a question, and there are 2 answers, “YES” and “NO”. Say the first person to answer says “NO”. Then everyone after that answers “YES”. This goes on for ever, for infinity.
As we approach infinity the % of “YES” votes approaches 100%, (or 1), but can never truly be 100%. It will be 99.9repeating%, (or 0.9repeating), because there is 1 vote of “NO”.
As a corollary to this the % of “NO” votes approaches 0%, but can never truly be 0%. It will be 0.0repeating with a 1 at the end.
Therefore 0.9repeating does not equal 1.
Did everyone just skip past my post? this has been Mathematically PROVEN as being equal due to it being impossible to prove wrong. In science and mathematics, it is 100% proven to be equal.

There is no 1 at the end… the zeros never stop. Why don’t people understand that? its continuous 0’s! It wants to have a 1 at the end, but never reaches that point. hence, mathematically, it is equal to 0! You cant write it, its not a real number… its = 0.

1=1.
.999999999~ is not one, therefore it does not equal one… It is almost one… and is greater than .9… but that does not mean it is 1
if .99999=1 than there would be no need for the number .9999999, and we would all use one.
.99999~ != 1, and if you think it does, you should try rounding repeating numbers on math tests and see if you get credit for a correct answer.

we are going to do a simple proof. we are going to change a repeating decimal to a fraction. anyone taking college level math should know how to do this.
let x = .999~
mult both sides of the equation by 10
10x = 9.999~
subtract the original equation, leaving you with
9x = 9 (the repeating part is removed)
divide by 9
x = 1
thats the proof.

They are practically equal, but not theorectically equal. There is a difference. But most of the time we go by practicallity.
