doing brakes on a 95 integra

got the front ones done yay!

and i get to the back and pull everything apart and i cant clamp the piston for the caliper in because its like a turn style thing “X” (left rear, havent tried right rear yet)

i tried channel locks and a screw driver, and got it down most of the way, but i cant get it all the way in to clear the rotor

is there some type of “special tool” to get it in all of the way?

then it started fucking pooring rain and hurricane winds came out of no where :jays:

help! thanks lol

Sometimes if you can push in on the piston while turning it, it will go in farther. Be careful not to rip the boot for the piston.

extra: i recall the piston on those having groves (u’s) and a pin on the back of the pad, the pin on the pad has to fit into the grove in the caliper piston.

yes you can rent the tool at any local advance or autozone

i just laid the caliper on the ground, got my pry bar, put the flat part in the groove, twisted and pressed in one motion and it went in.

word thanks!

yeah i think that’s what my problem was, i was only twisting it and not pushing at the same time, it should be easy then

thank you

X2, push and turn it should go. I use a crow bar and it works fine.

Here’s one tool you can use. If you work on cars enough it’s worth buying.

I had the snap on professional kit (before it got snagged) paid like $300 for it. I happen to be walking through harbour freight and saw they had a copy of the kit for like $37.00. Might be worth buying to you

i don’t even know what that is lol, are those like all the press fittings all in one tool?

this?

When I had to rotate my GSR brakes on the civic, I went to autozone…spent $2 on that little block and it made my life about 3,000 times more easy.

The large square openings on each side of the block fits a 3/4" socket end/extention. You use the opposite side that matches up with the piston grooves. Turn and enjoy, all the while applying pressure. Works like a charm.

The rental kit is 100 times easier then the square. I have the mac set and have only foundone caliper that would not turn back. It applys pressure from a bolt as you turn it.

Yep. I found it too hard to apply the needed pressure, while turning, using the square. I guess it depends on the condition of your calipers.

Yes!
For $19.00 you’d be foolish not to buy one

i bought the 40$ one (it was compatible with more cars) and then my dad stole it and claimed it as his fathers day gift lol

it seriously had about 1/16" more to go, and that kit helped SO MUCH for the other side
saved about 20minutes

3/4 huh? lol

thought the same thing lol

i made my own tool using an old socket and welded a piece of scrap metal to it so that i can use a ratchet, although that little square is like 10 bucks and can be found at most places that sell automotive tools

you know you can turn it by hand to move it down…

did you get it done yet?

yea it’s been done lol

There is no way you could turn it by hand, it bent the tool

that means its time to replace the caliper lol
