So, about a month ago I was cruising Craig’s for motorcycles when this popped up 10 miles from my house…
Pretty clean 82 R100 RT. I bought it as shown, with the bags from a guy in Hamburg. Rode it home in 29 degrees and it ran great. Bought it just to sell it. Put it on Ebay and was contacted by a guy from CT. We came to a price and met up in Albany. Owned it for 2 weeks 6 days.
Then an ad reappeared on Craigs in Rochester for a bike I was watching last year. 72 Norton Commando that was redone and sounded pretty nice. The pictures SUCKED. Plan was to hit him up on the way back from Albany but I was too tired. Went out to Rochester last Wednesday and gave him a deposit on it. Collected it yesterday with Jr.
When I called him I asked if it was a Combat engine. He said no. Combat was higher compression ratio, different cams, higher hp, and an ABORTION. 90% of them blew up/people said “FUCK IT” and converted them to “standard” specs. When I went to see it the first time, he told me it was in fact a Combat that had been gone over pretty well but he didn’t want to scare me away before I even saw it. Now, a non fucked Combat it a pretty desirable piece. Back when this dude was young, not so much. This one has been taken down to the crank, new Superblend mains and gone over pretty well. I’ll post some more pics when my Ipad isn’t being a fucking cock lord.
