Exchange Street during the day. Brilliant. What crew is this?
Oh and… “Yeeeeeah! We don’t need no mother fucking nitrous!”
Buffalo, NY (WBEN) - Drag racing down a Buffalo street in the middle of the day? That’s a risky move.
Putting the video on Facebook for the world to see? Some would call that just plain dumb.
That’s exactly what happened this past week, when a Reddit user found a video posted to Facebook by “Montdawg Pennyamon” that shows a group of men lining Exchange Street, apparently blocking cars from entering, and then watching as two cars drag race. At the end of the video, the crowd disperses in to other vehicles to distance themselves from the scene.
In the video, you can hear someone ask “Is anyone down there blocking it off?” and see people standing by what appears to be Chicago Street preventing cars from entering Exchange.
Buffalo Police tell WBEN that they are aware of the video and are investigating the incident. They ask that anyone with additional information call their confidential tipline at 716-847-2255.
A number of videos showing dozens of people blocking the street while cars race down it have recently been posted to Facebook.
7 Eyewitness News showed the video to Buffalo Common Council Member David Franczyk.
“You have to be really brain dead to do something like this,” he said after watching the video. “This illegal and this dangerous.”
And it isn’t the first time it’s happened. In fact, Lou Billittier Jr., who owns Chef’s Restaurant less than a block away, has seen it going on for years.
“You’ll get 20, 30 people sometimes standing along the roadway like they did in the 60s. It’s turned into a drag strip,” he said.
Billittier says sometimes the smoke from the burnouts is so bad it comes through the window of the restaurant’s drive thru.
Franczyk has reached out to the Buffalo Police Commissioner about the videos. He says he’s confident arrests will be made soon.
“A lot of these criminals are stupid. They put stuff on Facebook, and I’ll leave it to the police to catch these characters and put a stop to this. And never have this happen again,” he said.
