Drag strip question

I breifly remember someone getting a hard time at lancaster about closed end lugnuts on his car.

I run crager mags, it uses a shouldered closed end lug nut, there is no other option.
Anyone know about this rule?
The NHRA rule book for this eyar says nothing about it.
It says the size of your stud in diamater has to be that far into your lug nut on length, but nothing about open or closed end.

Enlighten me?

only if ya run slicks

nope street tires this season.
if I can sell my cragers for a fair price Ill be running slicks sooner.

i ran slicks there with those type, they never said anything to me.

i don’t remember them even looking at any cars that closely unless you’re running ridiculous times…

nice yeah, im hopen for somewhere in the 8s this year.
Dieing to hit 12s in the 1/4

Once you go so fast, they like to see longer wheel studs which require open ended lug nuts.

depends on your tech. i ran 6"s with norm studs

The rule from the NHRA rule book, and i’m pretty sure IHRA states in the general section that the threads on the lugnut must be FULLY engaged by the stud being used. Its a very common problem with aftermarked wheels that are thicker that new lugs are improper, and only grab a few threads. There is no rule last time I checked about open lug nuts, but what they do is allow the tech inspector to check for thread engagement easily by a quick visual, instead of lug nut, instead of pulling the lug and measuring the stud, lug and threads. I am almost positive, and after looking there is has to be an open back lug, or one with a plastic removable end. If not, you could have a set of the closed end lugs chucked in a lathe and have the backs cut off. Most tracks are making local rules to have the lugs be open, just so that the techs arn’t wasting 10 min while you pull a lug, measure it and so forth.
