Drugs found in Kawasaki Racing Team trucks claim

A report by the UK Border Agency has alleged that trucks belonging to the Kawasaki WSB Racing Team were found to have contained quantities of class A drugs and a firearm when stopped at Dover on their way from Italy last month.

Officers allegedly found 18lbs (8kg) of cocaine, 157lbs (71kg) of amphetamine tablets and more than 220lbs (100kg) of cannabis. It was also alleged a handgun and 35 rounds of ammunition were also left lying on a table, unconcealed.

Four technicians from Paul Bird Motorsport, based in Morecambe, Lancashire – the company which runs the Kawasaki team – were arrested on suspicion of firearms offences and importing controlled drugs. They were later bailed.

They were Philip Roe, 40, a mechanic and truck driver with the team; Gary Matthews, 50, a truck driver and tyre technician; Mattia Fontana, 27, an Italian mechanic; and Daniel Swyer, 32, who is also a mechanic.

Attempts to contact the team have so far been unsuccessful.

Damn, they must seriously race while ‘speeding away’ on adderall with that many pills…

Never thought of the “advantages” that teams probably use/have been using without being
caught…U’d think they would use this example as a reason to quick-sniff the trailers with a dog.

Its only fair…right?

Haha- seems it’s stuck with Kawasaki. “Fro” - Jeff Emig was one of the first big names to get caught in motocross a few years back now.

Drugs are legal in Portugal. Most of them anyway. So I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of teams were stocking up while they were in Estoril.
