E85 questions inside.

Let’s lay down the basics.
The Motor will be a N/A motor. 12.5-13.5:1 compression (haven’t decided yet)
Currently I can only adjust fuel, NOT timing.
Can I safely run either e85 or a 50/50 blend?

Can you get bigger injectors / fuel pump for it? figure at least using 30% more fuel. Might be difficult to run without changing timing, as I found the fuel likes a hotter spark w/ more advance than usual.

I wouldn’t bother mixing 50/50, you will most likely lose the benefits of the fuel.

Maby a advanced timing keyway or move the timing pickup? I had to do that on a project a wile ago it helped a decent amount to a point… Just a thought

Yes turbo maverick injectors are 40 lbs vs my 31lbs if not I knew they make 80lbs but It’s not a sponsorship part.

Also if I go 50/50 I should be around 98 Octane and not need quite as much more fuel.

If you aren’t able to fuss with timing, I really don’t think its going to be worth it as you will barely see any gain I’d think. If you could move the trigger point it might work, but that would be a full change across the board.

I’ll toss the injectors in so they are done. I can purchase the system to timing is another $1600.

I don’t see the point of running e85 just for high compression.

What’s e85 cost like 3.50 a gallon? Vs the $14 a gallon I pay for the race fuel in the bikes.

E85 is like $2.50/gallon i think

Wow huge difference in cost. E85 it is.

Yeah I paid $2.60 at north French and Campbell Noco a week and a half ago. The Lackawanna Xcell station had it for $2.29 a few weeks ago.

e85 needs more timing to be taken advantage of, either more timing or more compression

50/50 mix works well on my platforms but really only should be ran if you dont have enough fuel for e85

I’ll have to look into the timing thing, I know of another way that might be a bit cheaper.

If you can’t adjust the timing I probably wouldn’t bother with e85. On average I was running 12 more degrees of timing up top than 93oct. E30 or E40 blend would be better and it will start easier when it’s cooler out.

Would I need to pull as much timing with a E30 /E40? The stock ecu will adjust some timing, but nothing I can currently control.

You won’t realize all the benefits of the fuel by cutting it 50%…

There’s no more energy in e85 than there is in e50. Benefits beyond e50 essentially lay only in cooler combustion temps.

There’s a great article in the hp tuners forum, but the pdf link isn’t working.

Yes. More cooling effect, and more stable under higher boost / nitrous / high compression applications.
The gas is only present in E-85 to light the mix.

Can you change the heat range plugs to 3-4 steps hotter if needed to get around the timing problem? 13.5:1 compression should make up for std timing somewhat.

That would work also… For example… my car runs an NGK-7 plug which is a couple heat ranges hotter, and I’m at about 32* timing at 20lbs of boost. Shows how nice the fuel is.
