There was one of these ahead of me at a traffic light and I didn’t even give it a second thought at first. I just thought it was another Impala or whatever.
I’m sure it’s worth the price / performance if you’re also looking to stay under the radar.

Sure. Most of the time. I think I have just a bit of a broader ownership base to form an opinion with. That’s all. It IS only an opinion, though.
Edit: @LZ
I see them every day and confuse them for a Malibu in the garage. I know the G8 was not everyone’s cup of tea design wise, but a little more edge would have help with brand awareness.
I’m surprised they added a manual, that’s awesome. the price is right, but i just wish it was lower. I’d buy one of these used.
My Holden isn’t from the 80s or 90s, still came with collapsed strut mounts, a fake French stitch for the seat leather that has failed at the drivers side shoulder bolster (that an interior shop told me if it was a real French stitch like they should have used never would have failed), stitching that has failed on the rear seats all along the back window, front radius rod bushing that fail after a couple panic stops and a clutch slave cyl that failed and took the clutch with it (internal to the trans). 2nd gear syncro is pretty bad too but I’ll put that more on me beating on it than GMs fault.
05 with 58k miles. Hope they’re getting better.
the platform was likely designed in the late 90s, right?
I agree. They want to compare this to a M5? I don’t care how more faster or amazing this handles or runs. People want to class of a M5 for that price and don’t want a Chevy logo on the hood. I would have never thought these were so expensive when I saw them.
The only ones that are competing are the Ford GTs and the Dodge Hell cats. People will go back to domestic power for 50-60k+ for a rare form of a class but no one is going to throw that down on a Chevy.
I don’t think people are going I want to spend 100k+ on a M5 then deciding oh hey I will just get the Chevy.
I think the idea here is you get similar performance for half the price.
Damn these cars are heavy.
Same third party testing:
15 year old M5
Zero to 60 mph: 4.8 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 11.3 sec
Zero to 150 mph: 30.0 sec
Rolling start, 5-60 mph: 5.0 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 13.3 sec @ 108 mph
Top speed (gov ltd): 156 mph
Braking, 70-0 mph: 156 ft
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.90 g
C/D observed: 14 mpg
Lol, that would be epic in the BMW dealer.
Salesguy: “Hey so what are you looking for?”
Me: “I am shopping around. Looking at the M5, CTS-V, and an E63 AMG”
Salesguy: “Oh nice.”
Me: “Oh yea, and a Chevy”
Salesguy: “Get the fuck out of my dealership”
most people shopping for a $60k+ sedan can also afford a $100 sedan… it’s the same user IMHO
Where is there at 60k+ sedan
The SS is in the 40s
I realize everyone hates GM but fuck they sell $50k+ Kias now - http://www.kia.com/us/en/vehicle/k900/2015/experience?story=hello
The Hyundai Genesis sedan is also 50k+ with the V8
There is also a real disconnect on this forum between what new cars actually cost and people stuck on prices from 10 years ago.
Also with initial vs used qualities, vehicle weights, etc. That said, these with a stick are starting to grow on me. Minus the exhaust grumble they are total Q-ships and with an LS3 in it, upgrades are cheap and effective
ok, so I checked and the are a little cheaper than I remembered at 48k before tax and any options…
I suspect the korean cars heavily negociate down unlike this.
They don’t have any options they come loaded the only option is a sunroof its a 48k car.
sounds like a compelling argument to buy this over a new M5
I agree with you there. I think so many people on here only look at used car pricing and never realize how much new cars cost. a base price for a 2015 taurus SHO is 40K. I would put in on the same level as the SS as far as aftermarket and what power you can EASILY get out of it, but the fun to drive factory is not that great on the SHO if we were comparing the two. perhaps a good comparison in the german world would be the audi S6, and although not available in manual the power is on point its base price is still 75K… I guess to everyones point they are just not being cross shopped. I think the SS will be a awesome car for the car enthusiast that does not have 50-100K to blow on a car and still wants a fun car to kick around daily with a 100K powertrain warranty.
too bad the germans don’t offer a 100K warranty on their powertrain.
I’m definitely stuck in 10 year ago prices. I get sticker shock every time I look at new cars!
Chevy SS could get 1LE-like handling pack
