Yes, the engine seperation is a safety feature. That’s what that guy in CA crashed at 100MPH+ and literally walked away from the scene. It not only reduces inertia, but also prevents fires from entering the cabin.
Unfortunately it didn’t help this guy. He was burned pretty badly and in critical condition last I heard. I believe they have him in a drug-induced coma. He was a billionaire Russian businessman.
