Escort Restoration and BPT Swap

The front and rear trany mounts are wasted. That being said, the shift likage is rubbing against the bolt on the rear mount. I cut the end of the bolt so it could move freely. Still need a coolant temp sensor and the radiator fan that I accidentally gave to 91EscortBASS. Also need to hide all the wiring and drill a couple holes for the switches I bought for the fuel pump and starter. I have no idea whats going on with the fuel pump, but it wont run. Even with all GT harnesses in the car. So I just hotwired it through the enersia switch and put a 10amp fuse in.

Looks better with the GT bumper and grill on. I’ll post pics hopefully tomorrow night of the work done. I’ve only had it running so far. Hope to drive it around the yard tomorrow.

The project has slowed down in pace do to starting a new job and not getting home till late.

do you have the relay connected that it bolted to the ecu?

Yes I do. Its on the road now and runs great.

Well I spent some time over at kellersvts place today helping him with what I could to get the car done. the guts are in and it runs great. i was the one with the camera, so I took some pics.

It runs great and the power difference is amazing!!! I’m going to make a vid so you guys can see everything and it running. I’ve never owned an escort that can do 120mph. Yes I did it the first night on the road. Sounds kinda neat with no muffler. Real deep tone and not too raspy. But the muffler is going on tomorrow.

Notice the switches? You have to turn the key to on, flip the fuel switch, then lift up on the momentary switch to start. Kinda feels like a race car.

Next on the list is tearing the rear suspension and brakes out of the GT(seeing as its on its side:mamoru:). Also going to grab the side skirts and slap them on.

Looking good. Any reason you aren’t spending the time to make the ignition/fuel pump all work from the key?

I figure if I made it happen in an RX7 with an LS1 in it, it shouldn’t be TOO hard to do for you.

Use the ignition on to control a relay for the fuel pump (you ARE already using a relay, right?) and then hook up the wires for the starter…

you should take that cross member off and save it and take the rear end off for a rear disk swap

This car is awesome, I can’t wait to see it with fresh paint and all the details put back together. And I also can’t wait for everyone at lancaster this coming summer to see the difference between an LX(mine) and a GT(kellersvt) times and speeds.

Note: I’ve gotten mine up to 110, then it just doesn’t go anymore.

Yes and I’m also running it through the enersia switch with two fuses. It will work with just the key but I hacked up the fuel pump harness too much to save it. Once I get a chance to put the GT fuel pump in and get a ring I’ll switch it back over. Till then I’ll enjoy that neat feeling every time I start it up. Sorta like my fathers drag car.

That would be the plan once I start changing it over. Was going to do it tonight but the snow ruined my chance.

I remember the gt rear sway bar was larger than the lx. I think I might check them on the ones at m&m and yank one for mine.

if you want an upgrade go with a zx2 front subframe+tieplate and 1" sway bar

I threw some ball joints and tie rods on then aligned it today after work. Found the high idle problem. Ended up being a combination of vacuum leak and throttle body adjustment. Will have the under drive pulley on tomorrow and a decent pic of her clean. This NY weather sucks.
