Escort Restoration and BPT Swap

not when some of the hondas around here are pushing 500whp lol

Your money estimates are depressingly low, but at least your goals are too.

The 323GTX drivetrain handled stock the power you’re gunning for, so I’m not sure what you’re talking about. That was a worthy, cool little sleeper. My friend had one in high school.

There is such a thing as starting with a decent platform, but to each his own. Good luck.

The 323 GTX runs 180hp and the GTR, 220hp. Tranys are weak PAST/AROUND 250hp. Basically I’m making a GTR. Do more research about the trany before you try and prove me wrong.

And when the fuck did I say that the escort was the best starting platform. I chose the escort because I have little money and I grew up with ford and I’m sticking with it(even tho it’s mostly mazda). This car cost me $100 running and in this condition. And YES this wond cost more then $1500.

I was looking for support and maybe some help. NOT critisizm. If you dont have anything good to say or some tips for what I’m doing, FUCK OFF. The damn thing has only been up for a day and a half. What the hell is the point of posting this stuff on there when all you get is ass holes talking down to you.

Thank you those who have given me some confidance… I’m not ending my build and I’ll finish it.

my friend had a car like this in hs, it had pink pin stripes

gl with the build

Ditto.

I’m also looking forward to see how this will turn out.

Is that the one with the blow up doll on the roof???.. long story that I dont want to get into…

Really? Do you know the 323GTR is AWD, too? So you’re not making a “GTR basically” because you’re turboing a FWD Escort.

And coming back at me with more anecdotal evidence isn’t either of us doing research to prove either wrong. But the fact that you have the drive wheels confused is just common knowledge and discounts your credibility.

Since you don’t like what people post, maybe you should stop posting? Are you 15 or something? Stop getting all whiny.

I gave you the best advice anyone can give you, Good Luck. Here’s another gem, if you don’t have the money then don’t build a car. Take out a loan and buy a Camry or something.

I think this seems like a cool build. That red one is hot and I have always had a thing for Cosworth Escorts too…

 for building something different!

-Cheap insurance
-Terrific sleeper
-When it breaks who cares, cheap fix

:mamoru::mamoru::mamoru::mamoru::mamoru:

Anyway I’ll post something when I show some progress…

If all this is going to do is create high school drama then ya I will stop posting…

i would have found a escort gt to start with since its mostly plug and play with the engine. also the trannys for these are the worst my buddy blew up one on a mostly stock gtx motor .

cool build tho.

Weird that people would mock this build, the '91 to '95 Escort was the best car Mazda ever made for Ford. Great chassis, and with the 1.8, great engine.

the escort lx has ford wiring harness behind the dash and the escort gt has a mazda dash harness

not sure how much of a pita it will be to wire the ford dash harness to the mazda engine harness

will you be keeping the car sleeper or changing anything??? rims etc?? this seems like an interesting build

A friend has a set of 15" miata M-edition rims that I plan on taking off his hands. Body wise I was just shooting for the GT bumpers and side skirts with a mild drop of maybe an inch, and obviously a paint job. Debating on tint the windows(not a fan of them on a race track). Clear turn signals. Not sure what to do with the shitty headlights. GT brakes all around(rear disc conversion). Obviously the BP, manual swap and eventually the turbo. I’ll make my own 2.25" exhaust(magnaflow muffler, NO CANS). Maybe bigger sway bars and strut tower bars if I have the extra cash. Nothing to fancy,oh wait its an escort…:roflpicard:.

Actually the wiring is pretty easy. Dash comes off wise ease and literally just put the gt wiring harness in its place. Everything plugs in like it was meant to be here but it just has a different plug on the ECU and a couple more wires… You have to replace both in-car and engine harnesses.

oh now you want gtr parts huh, better get them while i have some , i got a box at customs waiting to clear right now… i have 2 more ecus, and maybe 3 more afm’s lined up along with more turbos… let me know when yours ready… just remember a car thats 1 of 2500 isnt cheap to find parts for…lol…

So you had a Honda, what happened?

looks like a fun build.

ill race ya when you are done. battle of the sleepers.

if the Mazda turbo wiring wont plug onto the ford wiring, strip out all the non engine wiring and wire it up as a standalone. makes it easier. you can strip out all the 1.9L engine wiring out of the original harness if you ambitious.
