Both in my opinion: Newer synthetic oils don’t breakdown as fast as conventional oils, but it is a good idea to do an oil change every 3000k or 4 months, it also depends on ur driving. But, you don’t need to bring it to a dealership to get this done if you know the basics.
Inspections in my experience are a waste of time and money. There are good and bad sides to them: It is preventive maintenance for you, but it’s also a way for them to make money. If it’s a newer vehicle, it’s a way of covering their asses on the warranty. They might spot something that will make it unroadworthy, which is good. If it’s an honest shop they’ll let the warranty cover it (if it applies).
Most of the shops that I’ve dealt with in Yellowknife were gyps. They would overcharge labour, tell the customer that they needed to add this or that etc. and charge them for it.
