FEELER: 95 BMW M3

= 2.5l i-5

i would LOVE to be able to swing the cost of a mk6 tdi golf but its dbl what i have to work with

Are you not going to winter it since it’s in such nice shape or because it’s rwd? Either way, GLWS.

yeah I realized after the fact that the rabbit was not a TDI model, I was thinking of the golf…after realizing the other day just how much I spend on gas, I REALLY want the new 4-door tdi golf.

The ironic part about this and a rabbit is this probably gets the same gas mileage. Nothing like a 15 year old sport coupe getting the same gas mileage as a modern eco-box.

yah M3’s can easily attain ~25-27 mpg highway. My sedan averaged an honest 23mpg with me driving it daily, which is pretty awesome to say the least.

M3’s should considering your 440whp vette was doing 26-28 on our way to savannah. My 98 cobra got 26 hwy. Auto 2.5 rabbits are rated at 29 hwy, that is seriously aweful for that kind of car. My 325is got 32 with my girlfriend driving it.

yeah, I was pretty surprised how bad the mileage is on the rabbit.

Newer civics get into the mid-30s easily.

Remember too though, that regular gas is ~20 cents/gallon cheaper. It adds up.

edit: by my quick math, driving 15k a year, he’ll save about $400 per year driving a rabbit than the m3 (assuming the m gets 25mpg and the rabbit gets 29).

still… it would be hard to say which has a total lower cost of ownership over a 2-4 year period. the m3 is close to fully depreciated, but will probably need some upkeep.

He could end up doing brakes, tires, suspension, steering parts and more on the M3. I guess a used rabbit might need those too. Oh yeah, new cars need these parts too. Plenty of people buy brand new cars and need brakes and tires by 25k. Plenty of used cars go that long without needing anything. A warranty is made to cover things that generally don’t go within the window it exists, and not cover things that do go in that window.

Deciding which car will be cheaper to maintain is impossible, there are cars with warranties that are still more expensive to maintain than ones without. Depreciation and fuel economy are much easier to predict though. People often buy something because it will be cheaper to maintain and lose hard on depreciation. The important thing is driving what you want to drive within your budget.

does any VW go into the “cheaper to maintain” category against anything? Maybe a high-mileage german sports car…

lol listen to you fucking fggts bickering about the reason i want to sell MY car.

Too cold for traction : (

Gotta do something.

Come south for a Rabbit, cheap as hell down here!
