So I’ve got some ideas floating around for the gs750 I bought from motocrossx23 and I’m gonna need an external trans. From my limited googling I’ve come to find out that only harleys had that, but beyond that I’m sort of lost. There are a few on ebay but none of them come with the gears/cogs that would go to the engine, so I’m not sure what to do there.
I think this one would be ok: http://www.ebay.com/itm/harley-4-Speed-shovelhead-transmission-Cowpie-/331340360632
Not sure if this would work, prob not: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1988-Harley-Davidson-Softail-primary-chain-drive-kit-with-clutch-/161447698539
Any links, key words, etc would be much appreciated!
i have no idea what exactly it is that youre asking.
it obviously sounds like this is going to be something you will have to customize to your application so…?
Its just the case of I don’t know what I don’t know. Seems like evo’s had the smallest trans, the newer ones have a large sump. The shovel head stuff is less common. Open/dry belt primary will probably be easiest since I don’t need to make sure fluid stays in.
this trans seems cheap, still a day+ left on it: http://www.ebay.com/itm/351191088027?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649
This one is a good back up http://www.ebay.com/itm/86-89-HARLEY-5-SPEED-TRANSMISSION-FOR-EVO-SOFTAIL-MODELS-/221574471382
belt drives are expensive, but this one seems complete and isn’t $1200. There is one bid on it, so we’ll see http://www.ebay.com/itm/BDL-3-POLISHED-BELT-DRIVE-KIT-W-CLUTCH-FOR-90-06-ELECTRIC-START-HARLEY-SOFTAIL-/221572239863
I don’t think the newer ones came kick start which would be ideal. I’ve seen add-ons I believe.
Wtf are you trying to build?
This seems like a good place to start…
damnit whats the difference between 89 and 90 models? The cheaper trans says 89-98, the other trans says 86-89 and the belt/clutch says 90-06. Any idea what ID the drive pulley is?
I’m almost postive some old triumphs also had external trans… or some other old funky british bike. Like 99% sure.
However I am currently 0% sure of wtf you are trying to do.
Yea, I saw a few of those when searching around, but with those you are paying for the novelty/collector aspects I imagine.
I’m not quite sure what motor I’m going to be using but I just need a way to put a transmission between an output shaft of a motor and the rear wheel.
The 750 Suzuki motor has an internal trans. My mind is about to explode this Monday morning. I am so lost.

If you don’t want to tell us, that’s cool.
Good luck.

haha. I’m trying to get my ducks in a row before saying anything. Most of my hair brained ideas never come to fruition so before I get flamed for being a retard I want to be sure of a few things.

Your best bet is to call me. I’ve had several harley transmissions apart to rebuild. I just threw away a whole clutch/belt drive assy too. Bummer.
Evo 5 speed will likely leak less but a shovelhead 4 speed is pretty readily available.
I’ll pm you my number.
So are you looking for a pre unit set up? Like what Norton used and the old Triumphs???

is this a ratchet top? http://www.ebay.com/itm/7644-1984-84-Harley-Softail-FXST-EVO-4-Speed-Transmission-/301352460188
damnit, never mind.
hand shift on the left, ratchet lid on the right…
I think the trans in the original posting is the one I’m gonna go with. (http://www.ebay.com/itm/331340360632?_trksid=p2060778.m2763.l2648 )
Then I’ll put together BDL or Primo belt/pulley ‘kit’ and snag a used clutch. Hopefully keeping it <$1k.

Any reason why I couldn’t go foot clutch/jockey shift with that trans?
nope. ive got a 4spd harley trans with a jockey lid on my pan and its a foot clutch/hand shift setup.
