Chuck why don’t you buy an E36? You could get into one for half your budget and spend the rest on handling / power stuff, or just buy a nicely sorted car for $10k. An E36 M3 would be in the budget too but it would be high mileage. Buy someone else’s unfinished project and make it your own for maximum savings.

S2k is a nice car, but in your budget you’re looking way at the low range of cars on the market. You will spend more than $10k all in all since you’ll have to buy winter tires, etc to make it a daily. Should be reliable though. You can forget about owning one with a hardtop too at that price point.

E30 M3, they are nice cars but way overpriced. If your wall does not have a picture of a Warsteiner M3 jumping the curb balls out on a track, forget it, you don’t want it enough to pay the premium.

I never really got into bmw’s. Plus, everyone has one now because the price has gone down. I’ve looked real hard and couldn’t find anything I wanted with less than 95k on it.

I’ve actually found a very nice, completely stock s2k with semi low miles from a dealer. I will be conracting them tomorrow. The price is a tad high but we’ll see how it goes. I already have 16" studded snow tires from my wrx so I’ll be set for winter. When I sell my rpf1’s I’ll look into either a hardtop or a hard dog roll bar.

Better yet buy my grandma’s Acclaim and turbo it.

You’re not being a dick, just irrational.

You’ve just gotten rid off an AWD, 4dr, turbo, newer car which most of the world will consider the definition of a perfect DD that has lots of potential due to “reliability issues” and you’re now looking at older vehicles wanting them to be reliable.

Sure Rx7 might be quick to rebuild and may burn a little oil every mile, but you’ve got to realize, it’s the fact that it will be down at all that is the problem.

All of those cars are a fine choice and are very typical project choices, if you get a second car as a back up/winter.

Really what you’re doing is you’re looking for a great performance car, or a car with lots of performance potential and trying to justify it to yourself that you can use it as a DD. Unfortunately it’s sort of like watching somebody do a backflip and thinking “oh it was easy, I can do that”, while in the meantime others are telling you, that it’s not in fact all that easy.

Using any RWD vehicle in NY during the winter is doable, but it’s not anybody’s first choice, especially if you’re dealing with a perfomance platform, especially if it’s in good shape.

i cant believe you tried to justify getting an Rx7 and saying an engine rebuild was a quickie… dude your lookin for a dd and u said it has to be reliable, so how can you think doing engine rebuilds on the weekend in the summer/winter is reliable lol

if i decided / decide to splurge on a new car, my range is also 10 g’s and I was thinking an E430 , 275hp v8 , 4 door, great dd , carry a bunch of bitches…i mean friends… yeah… and looks nice

i cant see driving this in the winter since my cousin has one we had it out on the fist snowfall clearing the garage out for an hour and there was a “dusting” of snow and it barely made it up are driveway which only had a 10 degrees incline… it was spinning the tires but merely made it buy pushing well it was moving (so it wouldnt spin tires and slide backwards down the driveway):shifty:banghead:wierd…
