So I’m tossing around the idea of getting either a flash memory camcorder, or a hard drive one. The flash one that I want, the Panasonic S7, is down to $200 right now and I’m really thinking about getting one.
Does anyone have a flash memory camcorder? How does the video quality stack up? The reason I’m leaning towards a flash one is due to the size. It would be nice to have something that won’t take up space when hiking/camping/traveling. Also great for up-the-skirt video when skunkape is least expecting it.
Right now, I’m debating between that Panasonic, or a Sony DSC-SR45 HDD camcorder with a 30gb hard drive. The sony is $70 more, but has nightshot, the HD, but doesn’t have optical stabilization while the S7 does.
Opinions/thoughts/comments/concerns/bacon?
EDIT - After reading some reviews, the Canon FS100 is getting tossed into the mix. Seems to have superior video quality, but it’s $100 more than the S currently.
Is it this years model? MG330 or something like that? We used to get a shitload of those returned, so I’m weary of that model.
I think the HDD will certainly be more convenient as far as not having to switch cards and w/e else. But I just bought an 8gb Ultra 2 SD card for $25, they are coming down like whoa.
What I am mainly concerned with, is the image quality. Although oddly enough, the Sony is 3x the size of the panasonic, but has a smaller image sensor. WTF is that.
Video quality is fine. It’s not HD, but I didn’t pay for HD either. Watching it on my 47" TV I don’t think it’s any worse than standard broadcast stuff. I paid $299 for the camera plus $50 for a case/battery bundle.
