I am only posting this up because I don’t think it is a competing event, but would be a great compliment event:
5/28, Saturday night, @ BeaveRun flashlight drags:
http://www.flashlightdrags.com/event-info.php?event_id=003
Why this is not a competing event:
The last one at BeaveRun drew out 100+ cars, seems like something to do the night before, and puts the 5/29 1/4 mile race on the map for the way back to Buffalo.
Moved to it’s own thread.
How long is the main straight at BeaveRun anyway? Every time I see video of this there it seems the races are soooooo short.
By using google’s scale of 200ft = 1 thumb, I get 8 thumbs across my computer screen… ~1600ft.
It is roughly set-up like this, not exactly, because I wasn’t watching it too closely. The back side of the track is used as the return road.
So they run 1/8th mile? Any time slips or is it just for fun?
No time slips, it’s heads up, the one time that I briefly watched it there was everything between a silver hiared husband (C6 427 something) vs. silver haired wife (C6 Z06) to a full size 4x4 diesel vs an Eclipse, there is an overall winner, but I don’t know how it is determined (maybe single/double/triple elimination but I am just speculating now).
Looks like I bookmarked this event at some point over the winter, lol.
It sounds like a cool event, but I don’t know if I can make it.
I’ve been doing the FLDs for a few years now and they are pretty fun. I’m more of a HPDE guy but for the price/fun ratio its worth making it to these events. I did the BR event last September in my turbo Miata and had a blast as usual. Its fun using the track as the return road, I got 10 “laps” in that day.
They have a couple of different classes for run offs/eliminations toward the end of the event. In the past its been the crowds choice by voting. I made it into the Tuner class eliminations a couple times in my old turbo B13 SE-R.
Do they care how fast you take the “return road?”
Yes they want you to go like 30mph. I was hitting 80-90 here and there but you have to be really careful since there are the old muscle cars putting back on bias ply cheater tires that have no road course experience. They will kick you out if you push it too much.
Yeah I obviously wouln’t push it. I’ve always wanted to get out on that track for lapping and just haven’t had the time.
