FMFL!!! The STI has been running awesome ever since I got it. Drove to work no problem this morning. Then on the way home I noticed an odd clunking in the left front. Jacked it up when I got home and the f’ing spring is snapped. No friggin idea how the hell it snapped, I dont know if I hit something or what. Now its in the garage til I can get a new set of springs. Gotta check with Gus and see what suspension he had in it and how old it was… springs shouldn’t just up and snap like this… there is barely even any rust on them.
Any ideas on where I can get new springs without going completely broke???
For the record: I don’t think at all that this was pre-existing because it something that would have been noticed before today. So I don’t think it was anything Gus knew about or tried to hide.
I’m waiting to hear back from Gus now to see if they were factory or aftermarket. The struts seem to have survived. Hell I didn’t even think it was the suspension… I thought it was just a rock in the wheel or something. The ride didn’t feel any different at all.
I’m not going to throw shit in there because I’m not about to replace them and then replace them again in a week… lol. And I like the stance it has now so I don’t really want to lower it any more or less than what it has now. I’m thinking of possibly going with the Eibach Pro kit. About $250 and it says it lowers 1" in the front and .8" in the rear… so if there is no drop now, it won’t change it much from what it is now.
Damn… not sure I really want to spend $350. But on the positive side, it looks like it is just under 1" front (23mm) and .8" rear (20mm) so the Eibachs would give the same stance.
The issue I have with just replacing 1 is that if 1 went, I’m sure the others are ready to go too. And I got damn lucky this time… really don’t want to chance another one going and causing a lot more damage.
Bummer man, I had a spring snap like that right before I sold my audi. Seemingly happened while parked? I was tight on money and just replaced the one broken spring. It rode a bit higher for a few days but once it was all settled in there were no issues. :dunno
They look like RCE yellows (based solely on them being yellow) which from what I’ve read are a pretty good value spring. If moneys an issue I’d definitely check the subi boards for some sti pink takeoffs. Good luck to you man hopefully you don’t get anymore surprises.
Edit: just saw coreys post about them being rce’s damn this phones fuckin slow
Heard from Gus. He’s going to check with the manufacturer about a warranty but we’ll see what happens.
For now I got the driver side completely out and the shock seems to be ok. It takes a decent amount of force to compress it. It doesn’t push itself back out but as far as I know its not supposed to?? So I think everything is good except the spring.

On a positive note, this is the first time I’m finally able to use my garage… lol
Well I just sent an email to the manufacturer and we’ll see what comes of it. I explained that I’m not some schmuck looking for a handout and that I would actually prefer a discount of some sorts on purchasing a full set (really don’t want to replace just a single spring).
at least now I have to ride the bike. I have been neglecting the poor girl. I just hope I don’t get caught not running the headlights during the day to allow my battery to charge… fml lol
